I'm fed up of breakouts on my skin. I think it's mostly hormonal and stress related, however it's driving me crazy. Mostly located around my chin and mouth, they are not whiteheads but painful "lumps" under the skin that take forever to heal. I do not have oily or combination skin, it leans towards normal and dry, it feels tight after washing with no shine. I cannot touch my face, if my kids touch my face it's broken out within 24 hours.
Anyone have suggestions on a plan of action or products to help? I am very allergic to gluten, so nothing with oats in it please. I cannot wear foundation for more than one day in a row, but I need something that will help.

I have the same issue since going off BCP (I have Mirena now). It's a monthly cycle, so when I know it's about time for them to start popping, up, I use the Mario Badescu drying mask and buffering lotion. If I still get one/some, I use a spot treatment with benzoyl peroxide and that seems to help.
ETA: I also use this as a moisturizer in the morning.
I had the same issue for months...it was so bad recently I was almost in tears one day because I almost felt like the lower half of my face was back in high school. I was considering going back on Accutane but I was so nervous about the bad side reactions like severe dry skin, etc.
I spoke to my doctor (who's a naturopath) and though she's not a dermatologist (which is of course the recommended path) she recommended taking Vitamin A supplements (in retinol form vs. beta carotene). Accutane is essentially a super high dose of Vitamin A. like 100,000 mg. I started taking 40,000 mg. for a week then backed it down to 24,000mg. It's been almost 3 weeks and I've only had 2 small whiteheads. Vitamin A in it's retinol form (from fish oil, usually) stops sebum production which is what makes acne, as well as encourages cell turnover (which is often why it's used topically in Retin-A, etc.) I also am taking a multi vitamin with it to ensure I was getting enough other vitamins, especially Vitamin E and Zinc which helps skin internally as well. The thing with taking high doses of Vitamin A is it isn't good for your body long-term, so I'll be decreasing down to 10.000 mg in a few weeks and seeing if my skin is still under control.
I also switched cleansers to something more gentle (Purpose) and using a toner as well (Alba Acnedote) to make sure my skin is 100% free of makeup/dirt, etc. at night. I also have been making sure I sleep on a clean pillowcase nightly thanks to a suggestiosn of a poster a few weeks back.
So, I'm not sure if it's the Vitamin A or cleansers or what...but my skin hasn't been this clear in over a year! It's the BEST feeling ever and I'm just hoping it stays this way.
It could be a number of things, but the fact that you're allergic to gluten makes me wonder if you could be allergic to something else as well that's causing the breakouts. My derm said cystic acne is usually caused by something from within (so hormones, food, etc.) rather than on the surface of the skin.
I had cystic acne off and on for a while and finally discovered that I have food allergies and intolerances. Since eliminating those foods my skin is completely clear. I had a bunch of other symptoms also, but I've read that this is pretty common and some people don't have any other symptoms. Dairy is a pretty common cause for some people.
It may or may not be this, but I just thought I'd mention it. I would visit the derm.
