Would you go back to the doctor?

Or am I being a baby?

 I felt a sharp pain/pop/snap in my left hip when running a 5K race last Thursday. I went to the Orthopaedic Urgent Care the next day because I had very limited range of motion in my leg and I was in a lot of pain. The xrays were negative for any kind of fracture or dislocation and so the doctor diagosed a sprain/strain and bursitis of the left hip. He did say that if I did not notice significant improvement by Monday to call back and they would send me for an MRI.

 Well, I did notice significant improvement by Monday in that I got pretty much full range of motion back, but here it is Thursday and I still have pain in the area, it's still tender to the touch, and if I move/walk/whatever in the wrong way I get a shooting sharp pain in my upper leg. The pain is tolerable, but certainly not comfortable.

 Based on the initial diagnosis, would you call the doctor back for this or do you think that I am still within the normal time frame of recovery? I haven't been able to run, heck, walking is enough of an effort, and it's killing me. If you were me, would you call the doctor back at this point for some more diagnostic testing or would you wait it out a little longer to see if it heals on its own?

  • I'd call the doctor back at this point. See if you can get into the regular ortho clinic rather than Urgent Care.
  • If it is bursitis, well, you could be dealing with that for a while. 

    But yes, go see your doc, or an ortho.  

  • Is the sharp pain a pinched nerve kind of pain?  If so then I'd want to see someone ASAP.  I'd still call no matter what. I dislocated my hip when I was 15.  It popped back in right away and the pain was gone the next day.  I started having issues in my 20s and it got worse in my 30s.  Lots of weight loss & exercise has helped but it still hurts or gets stiff now & then, and that throws off my gait, my posture, everything.  I wish I had strengthened my hip muscles & worked on joint stability when I was a teen.  Then again, I was young & stupid & thought my body would never get old and creaky!
