Where do you keep your fresh fruits & veggies?

I'm curious because I throw everything in the fridge but I've been told recently that isn't always best. So, where do you keep your:

berries

apples

peppers

onions

cucumbers

tomatoes

  • I keep all of those in the fridge, for the post part. Sometimes I will leave apples out in the fruit bowl on the table but they aren't as crunchy and refreshing that way. Tomatoes sometimes stay out also.

berries - in the fridge, always (or in my tummy - fresh berries don't last long here...)

apples - on the counter, on my fruit plate, until they are fully ripe, when they get moved to the fridge; unless dad is visiting, and then we keep 2-3 apples in the fridge at all times, because he likes to eat his apples cold...

    peppers - fridge

onions - it varies...  sometimes in/near the fruit plate, sometimes in the fridge

    cucumbers - fridge

tomatoes - fruit plate/counter until fully ripe, then fridge

  • I'm curious because I throw everything in the fridge but I've been told recently that isn't always best. So, where do you keep your:

berries- fridge bc I like them cold

apples - mostly the fridge because I like them cold

    peppers - I don't buy these

onions - don't buy - yuck! If I do buy them its for a specific recipe that others will be eating, so I pretty much am making it the same day as shopping or the next day, so no fridge.

cucumbers I dont buy these, but I would probably keep in the fridge?

tomatoes -fridge because I like them cold

I have been told that you should keep them like how they store them at the grocery store. However, I like several of these things better cold than room temperature, and also they stay better longer (or it seems like that to me) in the fridge.

  • I put everything but onions and potatoes in the fridge.  We go through fruits and veggies pretty quickly, though.  A 6lb bag of apples only last about 3 days in this house.

  • berries- fridge.

apples- if we buy them the fridge. I'm allergic and its way to tempting to eat them if I have them around. E likes them cold though, so on the rare occasion we do have them, they are in the fridge.

    peppers- fridge.

onions- uncut on the counter. Once cut in the fridge in a ziplock and an onion keeper.

    cucumbers- we don't eat these.

tomatoes- fridge until the morning of the day I plan on using them. The flavor is better at room temp.

I like everything cold so most everything is always in the fridge.

  • I have heard that keeping them in the fridge isn't the best either, but I loathe warm fruit/veggies. Everything on that list but onions goes in the fridge for me.
