Tell me about an adult only all inclusive resort that you loved. Location: Anywhere :)

These two things (AO and AI) are more important to us than location. We doubt we'll have time to explore outside of the resort or do many excursions. With DH's new position, we're only able to get away for 3 nights/4 days. We just want to be able to drop our kids off with the grandparents, enjoy a few kid free days and eat and drink with everything already paid up front. We've done 3 AI trips in the past (in Mexico, Jamaica and Turks and Caicos). Of those three only one resort was adults only- Couples San Souci. We loved it! As a mom of a 2 yo and 5 yo and a first grade teacher, this was seriously the most amazing part of the trip. LOL Smile

Thanks!

  • Adults only is part of our criteria for AI, too. Love it!

We have really liked the Royal Playa del Carmen and Valentin Imperial Maya. RPDC was more expensive and a little nicer facility, but there wasn't much to do past about 9 PM. It was nice that you could just walk to 5th street for something to do, but it was right in the midst of a bunch of other resorts. We loved the food and drinks there and it was a really great vacation. The VIM is our top choice because it's less expensive and there is a lot more to do. It's also not right by a bunch of other resorts, which I like for some reason. The rooms were still very nice and we really liked the food there, too. We had more fun at VIM, for sure. If you plan on staying on the resort the whole time, I'd choose VIM. Enjoy your vacation, wherever you go!

  • My fav was excellence Playa mujeres. Awesome! We have also stayed at royal playa del Carmen and Valentin imperial Maya. Liked both of those too. EPM was much more luxurious.

now I need to check out EPM!!

"luxury" isn't really part of our travel requirements, though...is the price difference worth it? ($1300 more for us over VIM)

  • we just went to The Jewel Dunn's River in February. it was in ocho rios, Jamaica. we LOVED it!!! its a smaller resort ( i think only 200 rooms) which was nice because it made it easy to get chairs by the pool/beach, restaurants weren't crowded for dinner, etc.

this was our first AI trip, so we don't really have anything to compare it to... but we thought it was great! the food was good, with lots of choices ( hibachi, italian, steakhouse. plus an awesome brick over pizza place, wraps/sandwiches,etc). one night they had "dinner on the peir"- almost like a wedding with like 8 courses and a strolling saxophone player.

The staff was what made the place awesome, though. they seriously spoiled you an would do anything to make sure you were having a good time. one of them even climbed up a palm tree to get us a coconut so we could drink fresh coconut milk!!

they didn't have quite as many activities as a bigger resort would...but they had hoby cat saiboats and kayak you could take out, 2 pools, and nighttime activities every night. they even had a "dive in movie" one night by the pool :-)

I was a little unsure because i had never heard of it before, but after i read all the reviews on tripadvisor i was sold! LOL let me know if you have any questions!

  • We loved The Royal Cancun.  It's more expensive than some of the other options listed, but probably less expensive than options in other cities, countries.

Some others I am looking into for a possible December trip:

    - Excellence Playa Mujeres

    - Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita (not adults-only, but probably few kids)

    - Le Blanc

    - Live Agua

    - Valentin Imperial Maya

    - Secrets Maroma

Luxury Link and Jetsetter often have good package options for AO/AI.  Mexico definitely gives you the best bang for your buck - usually if we're going to stay at an AI, all we want is to drink by the pool all day, so location isn't a big deal to me.

  • We did four nights at the Aura Grand in Cozumel a couple of years ago and it was amazing.  We stayed in a third floor room that had its own rooftop plunge pool.  The first floor rooms are swim-up access, which also seemed neat.  The food at the two restaurants was some of the best food I have ever had.  We still talk about our romantic dinners there whenever we talk about our favorite vacations.  When we went, the all-inclusive prices included drinks and they weren't stingy, which was nice.  I highly recommend it.  We tried venturing out into downtown Cozumel one day while we were there and we only lasted about 20 minutes because we couldn't wait to go back and lounge by the pool with a drink in hand.

  • Hands down Secrets Maroma Beach in Maya Riviera.  BEST beach EVER off of a coral reef.  Snorkeled there and saw a manta ray among many beautiful things. Relaxing beach and very relaxing and luxurious atmosphere.  Great food, beautiful pools, free access to catamarans, gliders, and sea kayaks.  They have  a spa too. Wonderful hibachi grill that is to die for.  I highly recommend it.
  • Thank you all so much for the great recommendations so far! I am checking the websites and reviews and they look amazing! I'll have a great list of places to try to this trip and others in the future.  Smile

Royal Hideaway - it was heaven :)
  • I also recommend Excellence Playa Mujeres. DH and I went for the same length of time that you are looking it last year in January. We did nothing but lay around and it was fabulous. EPM is very nice and we were happy with it. The best part is the bed-sized lounger on every balcony. I pretty much couldn't drag DH off of it, lol.

My sister just got back from RH on Friday and she's raving about it.  She said the beach, service, and food/drinks were outstanding.

  • We really loved Zoetry Agua in P. Cana. It's not technically AO, but there are absolutely no kid friendly activities, therefore no kids go there. It's only 51 rooms, no buffets, no preferred/VIP club, 24hour room service (and you are not limited to what's on the menu) and has an excellent spa. They had tons of staff who were very professional and well-trained.

Dear friends of mine just returned from Calabash Cove in St. Lucia and they can't stop raving about it. It's definitely next on my list..

  • Villa Premiere in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Hands down awesome with ocean views and a hot tub on your balcony.
  • Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica - one word...amazing!

This is where we spent our honeymoon and it was incredible!!  All rooms face the water!

  • We stayed at Sun Palace in Cancun two years ago.  It was our first AI and is adults only as well.  We had a BLAST!  The service was absolutely incredible.  The resort was not a party hotel but was more quiet, relaxed, laid back.  Food was really good.....I'm not a super picky eater......but I don't think you could possibly get sick of the food in the short 4 days you will be there.  I'd highly recommend the Italian restaurant for dinner.

We had such a great time there that in February we went to Playacar Palace (not adults only) in Playa del Carmen, MX.  Again the service was amazing.  we had our wedding and honeymoon here and thus were there two weeks.  Did not get sick of the food as they switch it up quite a bit.  We knew the staff, the staff new us, it was incredible and I literally cried as we left.

  • Grand Velas in Playa del Carmen! The food was amazing, every dinner we had on the property was like a 5 star restaurant. We are foodies and were really impressed. The property is gorgeous. The AI fee is not cheap, but so worth it!
