Re: Taormina, Sicily
Took a Carnival cruise there in October 2011. Stopped in Messina. It was rainy and gross, so instead of staying there, we hired a cab to take us to Taormina for the day. It was higher up in the mountains, and BEAUTIFUL! Would have definitely loved to stay. They had cute little hotels and B&B's that we saw while walking around. Anywhere near the Greek Theater is great (aka, Teatro Greco I think). You can walk everywhere. Cute little town. Have fun!
Just wanted to say that I loved Sicily so much and can't wait to go back.
I would look into renting an apartment - that is what we did in Cefalu (on the north coast) and it was great.
