HCG levels perfect and rising, but no baby at 6 weeks on U/S?
Hi, I need some advice, its my first baby
I had my first ultrasound smack bang on 6 weeks, perhaps even a day or two less than. We could see the sack and yolk, but no baby.
My HCG levels have increased since then ("perfectly" in the words of my dr) however she found it odd we couldnt see the baby or a heartbeat.
I've done ALOT of reading, and reading a lot of people saying that they couldn't see their baby at 6 weeks either... my next ultrasound isn't until 8 weeks (I am now 7 weeks) and my morning sickness is getting worse and worse...
thoughts? experiences? so nervous and emotional about it!
Re: HCG levels perfect and rising, but no baby at 6 weeks on U/S?
Not everyone here has been pregnant, wants to be pregnant, or can get pregnant. 1st Tri on TB might be more helpful. Good luck.
ETA: wording
Good luck. (at least see if they can prescribe something for the morning sickness --- you might also try ginger tea or ginger snaps or anything made with ginger. It does wonders to calm an upset stomach)
First off....definitely don't panic! Secondly, don't take what I say as gospel as I am not a Physician or expert, but I've had 2 pregnancies
6 weeks is awfully early for an u/s in my opinion. I know (I work in Healthcare) that most OB's won't even schedule an actual visit until after 8 weeks.
With that said, it may just be too early to see the baby. There is a sac and your levels are rising so that is a good thing!! You may just need to wait until at least 8 weeks to see a baby.
You won't hear a hb that early yet either. I had an u/s at 10 weeks because my doc couldn't hear the baby's hb on the doppler so they needed an u/s to confirm the baby was still ok. He was and he is almost 10 months old
Good luck! I know the first trimester can be unnerving but try to relax and call your doc with any questions.
ETA: I agree with the others. Head over to 1st trimester on the bump. I assure you you will find others going through similar things.
Are you sure of when you ovulated? It is possible that you are not as far along as you think you are. Even if you have regular 28 day cycles, that doesn't automatically mean that you ovulate on day 14. Even if you normally ovulate on day 14, you can always have an off cycle where you ovulate later.
At 6w2d with DD, there was a fetal pole, but no heartbeat. At 7w2d, there was a perfectly fine heartbeat and measurement. The heart usually starts beating around 6 weeks, so that can easily be off by a couple of days either way.
I had an ultrasound at 6w2d and boom we saw both boys and their heartbeats.
Are you sure when you ovulated? you could have ovulated a few days later and that would explain what you are seeing- or not seeing.
My US tech had to do an u/s on me at 6 weeks on the dot because of bleeding, and told me in advance that it might be too early to see anything but a yolk sac. We DID see a heartbeat, but she said it had probably only started that day, because it was a little slow. I went back three days later and everything looked beautiful. I'm 34 weeks now.
Hcg rising is a good sign. Morning sickness is a good sign. It's really early. Just hang in there, and every day when you get stressed, remind yourself "today I am pregnant." I know that two weeks will seem like forever, but you'll know soon. Worrying won't help.
Best of luck!
Do not do this. GP is not a place to ask first trimester questions because many there have never had a BFP or have lost very early. Go to First Tri on the Bump. Please.
