Recommend your favorite 10k & half training schedule

So after a long hiatus from running, I signed up for about 4 races this week to help keep me motivated after the marathon this weekend.  Three of them are fun mud runs, one is a 10K, and then I'd like to sign up for a half for sometime in the fall.

I don't really have huge aspirations of finishing fast, but I would like to try to push myself to keep improving on speed.  The problem is I kind of hate short speed workouts.   Does anyone have any favorite training programs they followed for a 10K or half that might be beneficial for increasing speed without having to do sprints at the track, or other suggestions?  I honestly would probably skip the speed workouts anyway.

Re: Recommend your favorite 10k & half training schedule

  • Miles... If you don't want to do speed work add miles, but really at some point if you want to get faster you have to teach your body run faster.  You could start with tempo runs so your body knows what it is like to pick up the pace.

He has free training schedules and they are broken out by like beginner, intermediate, etc.
