I can't seem to find a calling card that will work for DH in Afghanistan. Anyone know where I can get one that will work over there, preferably a re-loadable one?

Re: Calling card question
His best bet might be to buy one when he gets there. I know for H on the ship he can really only use the ones he buys on the ship so I never bother sending them. Or I would try on base, I know the NEX sells the international ones.
Also, I don't know what they are allowed, but H bought a cheap reloadable cell phone in a port, and then whenever he gets to into ports he can just buy a new SIM card for it, with usually about 200 minutes for $20. It's awesome when he is in port because it's cheap and much easier than waiting for phones in the sandbox.
Not sure yet about the internet access for skype. Thanks for the warning about the reloadable card. I I"ll be sure to keep that in mind!
Definitely just wait on figuring out comm until he gets there. It depends so much on where he is (large base or small FOB), etc., so it's no good to get your hopes up if he's sans the ability to communicate often.
Traditional calling cards never worked for J so he got a spawar card set up. He could call from an internet cafe (very rarely) or anyplace there was a usable phone.

I would wait until he gets there to find out what com will be like. J has never paid to use a phone. My H has litterally been on every FOB in Afghanistan. He's only had to pay to use phones at a few of those. We also use the video chat on the internet more than actual phone calls these days. Now that I can chat from my phone, he hardly ever actually calls.
This. Calling cards didn't work.
Photo bomb, yeah!
