Ok I just wrote a huge response then lost it.
what I said basically was that I'm Canadian- I was raised that you take your shoes off at the door no matter what, or it's impolite. I have many American relatives and when they recently came to visit for a bridal shower, I learned that they normally do not remove their shoes. I was very surprised to learn this. It's always been something taught to me as "polite" but they are used to keeping their shoes on in other people's houses.
I remember I always used to think it was so unrealistic that the stars on tv shows were wearing heels in the house until I realized that a lot of people conitinue to wear the shoes they wore during the day inside the house. I just started to realize the differences about a year ago when my relatives came to visit and I realized the complete different opinion/tradition on the idea of taking off shoes in the house.
Yes, I wear shoes in the house, but not all the time.
It's not something I think a lot about. Unless I come in the door in heels from work or cycling shoes, I just leave them on.
I always take my shoes off when I enter anyone's home. Unless they explicitly tell me to leave them on and even then I usually still take them off.
I am a bit obsessed with clean floors in my house, and hate when dirt, snow, water, etc gets tracked in.
