Whats the deal with cutting out caffeine? I can understand if they meant drinking caffeinated beverages all day instead of water is not good, but even one coffee? I know Tosca Reno states she does drink coffee everyday, but takes it black to avoid added sugar/fat in creamers, but is this really the reason they say to cut caffeine?

Re: Clean Eating Q- Caffeine
For me personally, the biggest reason for quitting caffeine (a million times) is that I become dependent on it and need it to wake up. I hate that. And I don't like just regular coffee - no, I have to go to Starbucks every day and get an iced vanilla coffee or a soy latte of some sort. So it's a lot of money and a lot of extra calories. When I'm off of caffeine, I drink water in the morning and I don't need anything to wake up. Also, we are currently TTC and it may make that harder.
When I first started learning about clean eating though, I read that coffee is grown in other countries where the organic label is not regulated, so no matter if you drink conventional or organic coffee, you're probably still consuming a ton of pesticides and other chemicals. The book Skinny B!tch talks about it.

I'd say it's another one of those things that's okay in moderation. I don't drink coffee, but if you drink it black or with milk and honey or raw sugar I'd say it's probably clean enough. I sometimes drink tea and I'll probably still have the occasional cup, but with milk and honey instead of sugar or artificial sweeteners.
I'm pretty sure that being addicted to caffeine is not clean though, and it just seems like a bad idea to drink a lot of it.
Clean Eating is different to everyone.
To me, they say cut it out because many Americans get their caffeine kick from Redbull, 5hour energy, soda, etc.. ie NOT GOOD STUFF>
Black coffee and tea are my two BFFs though. Both are natural, organic (if you buy from the right places) , fair trade (important to me and also, if you buy from the right places) and great for your system.
If, however, I feel myself NEEDING coffee to wake my butt up multiple days in a row, I cut it out for a couple of weeks until my body stops feeling dependent on it.
