Tell me stories of being pregnant and racing/running.

We are thinking about trying for #3 soon. There are 3 halfs that I want to do: 7/14, Aug and Sept. If I were to get pg I might opt out of the Aug one because it starts at 8 and it was really hot last year the last few miles. The other two are canyon ones that are pretty cool.

I ran until two weeks before I had my son 3yrs ago. It was mostly 3-6 miles 3xweek. No really long runs.

Re: Tell me stories of being pregnant and racing/running.

  • I kept up with long runs during my last pregnancy, and was able to complete a half in the early 3rd trimester. It was really fun, and the crowd and other runners were very supportive. They even let me cut in line for the bathroom. I kind of felt bad, since I didn't have a time goal, but I took them up on it since I realllly had to go, lol. I had some bad Braxton Hicks during that race, so I made it my last double digit run. I also ran a couple 5k's which were easier on the bladder ;)

  • I ran two halfs, two 10-milers, and a 5k while pregnant. All but one race were in my 2nd and 3rd trimesters. The half I ran during 1st tri is actually my PR at that distance, which is kind of crazy, but I didn't know I was pregnant yet. It's definitely possible to keep doing longer distances. You just need to listen to your body.

  • I did 11 races while pregnant with LO. The three 1/2s were in the 1st and 2nd trimester. The 5ks and 10ks were sprinkled I all the way until a few weeks before she was born. I had a blast!
  • I ran a 10 mile race the day I found out I was pregnant, but that was still early on. My experience was a little different because I had twins, but I had to limit myself to 3-4 miles by 16-18 weeks because of the pressure.

  • I just did a 1/2 at almost 16 weeks pregnant and for the most part was ok. Training was absolutely great - I found out I was pregnant at the start of week 2 of my training. I never missed a single training run, long or during the week. I think it really helped me with the 1st tri exhaustion and not have much m/s at all.

However, now I can tell that carrying the extra weight and my body doing what it needs to for pregnancy are making running more of a challenge for me. I was considering doing a 1/2 in another 7 weeks (so about 24 weeks pregnant) but I think I'm going to pass and just do some 5 &10ks throughout the summer instead.

If the 1/2s were closer and not very expensive, I'd probably be fine do them for a few more weeks, but knowing I'm not going to get a PR, I can't really justify the price and travel time.

and it sucks getting slower :(
