Clicky Poll NH&FR: Shoes in the House

Re: Clicky Poll NH&FR: Shoes in the House

  • I don't feel weird if I don't take them off , I just don't take them off right when I get home.
  • I should answer my own poll. I live in my slippers. I rarely wear shoes around the house unless I'm about to leave, am going inside/outside for something (like yardwork or cleaning), or if we have company.
  • I also have no real pattern for shoe wearing in the house. I'll kick of heels or work shoes when I change into non-work clothes. I'm still wearing my running shoes from 2 hours ago... I leave my front door open much of the time, and walk in and out a lot with my dogs, so I often have flip flops on. But then again I feel like I'm barefoot a lot...

We take off our shoes at the door.  We have hardwood floors and try to minimize the dirt and stuff that drags in.  We don't expect our guests to take their shoes off.

  • Ok I just wrote a huge response then lost it.

what I said basically was that I'm Canadian- I was raised that you take your shoes off at the door no matter what, or it's impolite. I have many American relatives and when they recently came to visit for a bridal shower, I learned that they normally do not remove their shoes. I was very surprised to learn this. It's always been something taught to me as "polite" but they are used to keeping their shoes on in other people's houses.

I remember I always used to think it was so unrealistic that the stars on tv shows were wearing heels in the house until I realized that a lot of people conitinue to wear the shoes they wore during the day inside the house. I just started to realize the differences about a year ago when my relatives came to visit and I realized the complete different opinion/tradition on the idea of taking off shoes in the house.

  • We usually take them off at the door, but I'm not anti shoes in the house.  Since DD, though, it's easier to just take them off, then she doesn't end up with her shoes on the furniture, etc.
  • I hate shoes and take them off whenever I can. I'm from FL and practially grew up barefoot. DH, on the other hand, is from CT and never takes his shoes off. Or randomly one foot will itch and he'll take that shoe off and then walk around with one shoe on and one shoe off. It kills me!

  • Yes, I wear shoes in the house, but not all the time.

It's not something I think a lot about.  Unless I come in the door in heels from work or cycling shoes, I just leave them on.

  • I am much more comfortable barefoot, so I take off my shoes as soon as I can. I wish I could go barefoot at work.

  • I often take my shoes off inside, but we're not one of those households that requires people to take their shoes off at the door (usually I take mine off while sitting at my desk). I do not have slippers - it's socks or bare feet for me.
  • I voted SS because like so many before me have shared, I don't really have a "schedule" for my shoe wearing.  Sometimes I go barefoot.  Sometimes I wear shoes.  Sometimes I wear slippers.  Sometimes I take my shoes off right away, other times I wait until the right moment.  Usually the only things I don't walk around in are my cycling shoes, but we usually take those off when we get home in the basement when we put our bikes away.
  • I always take my shoes off when I enter anyone's home. Unless they explicitly tell me to leave them on and even then I usually still take them off.

I am a bit obsessed with clean floors in my house, and hate when dirt, snow, water, etc gets tracked in.

  • I kick my shoes off at the door.  I just like being barefoot.  I kicked my shoes off at work during my lunch break just now.
