Belgian Chocolate Shops

I just read that there are over 2000 chocolate shops in Belgium.

Do you think 6 days is enough time to hit them all?

Re: Belgian Chocolate Shops

  • LOL- breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks inbetween- give it a go!

It WAS hard to decide where to get chocolate from in Bruges since there were just so many choices.  We asked for a few recs to which everyone had a different response so we finally just picked a place.

It's nice to think about trying to hit them all anyway.

  • give it a try!

is the dog in your sig a ridgeback?

    Nope, he's a pug-beagle mix.

There are also 650 different kinds of Belgian beer. We figured we could have 6 small meals a day to try to fit all the chocolate and beer in. LOL.

  • Most of the shops in Brussels would provide a sample or two.  And with my DH's nut allergy, I wouldn't let him take any chances so I ate his too!

I will admit to having a waffle in the afternoon and then waiting until just past midnight to have another - because having two waffles in the same day would be wrong.

Sadly, we only spent one night in Brussels travelling from Amsterdam to Paris - and had such an amazing day.  Brugges is on our must do list...

  • You must go to Brugge!  It is really the "chocolate capital".  In warm weather, when shops leave their doors open, I kid you not, the streets smell like chocolate!

    Ditto this exactly. OMFGood.

  • If you go to Brussels, try Marcolini on place du grand sablon. Very expensive but oh so delish.

    Otherwise, yep, Neuhaus.

Oh and you should go to Delirium for the beers, they sell over 2000 types.

  • I spent two days in Brussels and literally the only things I did was eat and drink chocolate, waffles, frites, mussels and beer!  My stomach was in pain on the train ride back, but it was so worth it.  I second the recommendation for Pierre Marcolini chocolate - really good stuff.
