If you've had a professional bra fitting...

Can you tell me if this calculator is accurate?

It seems way off to me, but I've never really been fitted before. If you know your measurements, can you tell me if this seems right to you?

Pretty much.  It said I was a 30DD, but depending on the bra I sometimes think the 30 fits a little tighter.  I'm a 30DD or a 32D depending on the bra.
  • That seems off to me partly because its sizing up the band from the actual number (i.e. 36 to 38) which should not be te case generally since the band will eventually stretch out. It should be tight to begin with and you should always start on the last set of hooks and work your way in as the band stretches.

Also it seems to be adding way too many cup sizes. I'm a C and it told me I was an F (which I most DEFINITELY am not, I have been properly sized.)

Hmm.. it says I'm a 30D but that seems way too big of a cup size. My measurements are 27 and 32. I usually will wear a 32B or sometimes a 34A, I would consider myself pretty small chested. Maybe I'll try a 30B or C.

My measurements are 29 and 34.

My friend's are 26 and 30.  When she got measured at My Intimacy they said she was a 29B. They had to customize the band for her.

It looks like the calculator does not go below 30 (I put in 20 for the ribcage measurement and it still said 30).

I hope this doesn't sound creepy, but from your pictures you look like you have a bigger chest than my friend, so I could definitely see you as a 28D or 30C (possibly even a D). Of course I'm not expert.

  • If your ribcage measurement is 27" you should DEFINITELY not be wearing a 32 anything.

    Try this site: http://www.figleaves.com/us/fitting_room.asp?cat=189&txt=5679

They have 28" band sizes, which is probably what you should be wearing.

I noticed it doesn't go below 30 also. I think I'll just need to go try some things on. I have a narrow rib cage so maybe that's why I've always thought of myself as on the smaller side.

    Thanks for the help!

Very helpful! Using this I think I'm in the 28D 30C column as SA said above.

    Thanks!

  • Ya, that site put me at a 34 D. I barely fill out a 34 B... Huh? I wish it were accurate! ;)

ETA: and when I was professionally measured, I've been told both 32 B and 34 B.

  • What happened to the rule that you should be adding 4 inches to be band size for an even #, or 5 inches for an odd number?

My rib cage measures about 30.5 inches and I've always been put in a 36 whenever I've been professionally measured. Granted I've only ever been measured at VS, never a place like Nordstroms.

This has me in a 32DD. I can't imagine that's right. I usually wear a 36B and there's still extra room in the cups.

If your rib  cage is 30.5, there's no way you are a 36 band.  Definitely try on a smaller band with a larger cup. You will definitely feel the difference.  I used to wear a 34 band and thought it was fine, until I wore a bra with a smaller band and noticed I never had to adjust my bras. So much more comfortable.

I think that adding 4-5" is outdated. I even noticed not long ago that VS website has a "how to measure" link that does not say to add any inches, only to round up or down.

You could very well be a 32DD though, if you look at the chart in the second website above, it shows how each cup size differs when you change the band size. I actually have a few very similar bras, one 32B and one 34A and the actual cups are pretty much identical in size.

  • VS doesn't know how to measure bras for schitt and they don't carry anything over a D cup so they try to force people into wrong sizes just so they can make a sale. The most common place that does proper fittings is Nordstroms.

The "Add 4" if XYZ" rule is an old holdover from when things were done differently and not correct anymore. You shouldn't be adding anything to your band size unless you're an odd  band # like 33">34".

The figleaves site is a good one to go by and they carry band sizes most places don't. Like it says, most women are wearing bands that are way too large which is why once you get into the proper size it can feel "wrong".

It all boils down to the fact that no 2 set of breasts are alike and you have to find what works for you. A good place to start is by checking that sizing chart I posted, then go try a bunch of different bras on. The chart may say you're a 34C but a 36B might work better for you in a certain brand.

That would explain a lot! I know what I'm doing this weekend! (And I'm LOLing now that my sig pic is basically a giant picture of my boobs.)

I agree. I'm a 30.5 rib cage and I've been told by Nordstrom and Soma that I can do either 32 or 34 depending on the bra/band.

    This. 100% this.

Go to Nordstroms. They are wonderful. My bewbs have never been more comfortable. I was shocked that I needed a 32ddd. VS had me in a 34c, which was so uncomfortable it rode up in the front and I did not feel supported. I went to Nordstroms after VS quality went down, and customer service started sucking. The panties at Nordstrom Rack are cheaper and better quality than VS too.

Get professionally fitted. It is an awesome experience because even though your half naked with a stranger, they are professionals and you will feel beautiful. The lady who helped me was so great and patient because I tried on like thirty bras. She even told me when to come back for sales on the styles I liked, and what were seasonal colors and when to come back for those on clearance. The customer service was awesome, and her telling me about sales and when to buy proved my best interest was a priority, not just a sale. As a result, I now spend a lot of money there. And pricing is a bit more than VS, maybe $65 per bra, but the quality is far superior and they will last longer, especially because they fit right.

Fwiw, I never found an accurate online calculator. Plus brands and even styles within brands can vary, so you really need to try them on. Get fitted at Nordstroms, then order online and return, shipping and return shipping is free.

Get professionally fitted. When I measured myself, I was way off. Plus, they can tell you how a bra SHOULD feel when it is on, not something I knew before I asked.

  • It says I'm a 32D, but really I'm a 30D (32's end up with boob coming out underneath the wire). If I lower my band # 1 inch (I'm kinda in between 29 and 30) then it says I'm a 30DD/E, which I don't think I am either.

    I like the BreakOutBras.com directions...

totally agree!!  your bra support should come from the band and not the straps.  so the better the straps fit the better the bra will fit and feel.  I used to wear a 36C -but  I'm actually a 34E or 32F depending on style.

and the style of bra matters as well - full coverage, demi, plunge - any of those may be a different size for me.  and that's okay.  it should bring your breasts front and center and not out to the side.

  • There's a huge misconception about cup sizes which is why women are always saying "Oh I couldnt possibly be a C/D/DD etc cup! Im not that big!" Cup size isnt ALL about massive boobs. A lot of it has to do with how your breasts are shaped, where the majority of the weight is, how they sit on your chest... so DON'T just automatically assume there's no way you could be (insert seemingly astronomical cup size here) because most women are wearing the wrong size bra and guess what? Youre probably one of them so get fitted professionally!

  • Yikes, it's saying 32FF! Definitely not accurate for me. I got fitted at Nordstrom and was told 32DD (I laughed in the woman's face, lol)

Yeah, not a FF. And if I am, I'm just not going to wear the right bra b/c that's just bananas. It's hard enough finding 32DDs!

  • I was expecting it not to be accurate as these calculators never seem to be but was surprised to see it be almost spot on!

Last time I was fitted was a month ago at Bravissimo in London. They told me I was a 30FF (or a 32F, she figured I was right in the middle of 30 and 32 so I could go with whichever of them felt best). This calculator said I was a 30FF/30G. Not too off.

  • Yup this is spot on for me.
