My bug is back

I feel fine, but am making numerous potty trips since about midnight. I'm not giving up on this race, so I need some suggestions.  I'm hoping the diarrhea goes away, but what to eat and drink before Sunday?  And if it doesn't, depends aren't too embarrassing  are they? :)

In all seriousness, I'm trying to hydrate. Should I think about imodium? I'm worried about constipation from that. I should still attempt to carb load a bit right? Foods I'm not thinking of that will help "slow my roll"? Things other than the obvious to avoid?

Thanks in advance, you guys. I'm sorry I'm so high maintenance.

Re: My bug is back

  • Oh boy.  Maybe pedialyte to be sure you are fully hydrated?

I was going to suggest imodium too. Even if you are constipated for the race, that's better than the alternative right?

I'd stick to bland foods too like chicken, pasta, rice, and bread.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

  • :( I don't have any advice, other than what you are already doing. Feel better!

  • Immodium stat. Couple that with apple sauce, ginger ale, baked potatoe plain pasta etc

    Did I mention immodium stat?

  • It shouldn't stove you up. You gotta stop the problem
  • I agree with PP's. It's Friday. The race is Sunday. I wouldn't worry about constipation. Imodium!

  • In terms of problems to have, dehydration >>> constipation.

Take the Immodium.  It will probably fix you right up.

  • I had a stomach bug last weekend.  My suggestion:

    1) Now: take the immodium.

    2) Tomorrow: hydrate hydrate hydrate. Expect nothing to happen.

    3) Sunday: Know where all the porta potties are along the race route.

The timing, plus the running, would make Sunday morning a prime time for things to start moving a bit again.

  • Oh no!

    hydrate.  don't forget the electrolytes.

I would still attempt to keep your caloric intake up, I'd just stick to bland foods.

as far as slowing things down, I hear bananas and cheese will do that.

I have taken pepto prior to races and long runs when having GI issues.  I've never had an issue with it.

  • When I have a stomach bug I try to stick to the BRAT diet, bananas, rice (white), apple sauce and toast. I agree with the pp who suggested Pedialyte, and if you don't like the taste of it get the plain and mix in pre sweetened kool aide. Feel better soon!
  • I wouldn't take Immodium because if you have a bug, it needs to get itself out.  You don't want to risk getting sicker by not letting things run its course.  The BRAT diet is probably your best bet.  Feel better :(
