First time since DH has been gone that I had an unscheduled visitor (stupid alarm salesman). Please tell me that for the next 7 months I won't have a panic attack everytime the doorbell rings?

Re: Well that sucked
Tell them no thanks right away. I had this happen to me while DH was at work. He stayed in our driveway forever! Then miraculously DH pulled up. I was so effing relieved. He was all "why didn't you just say no, I don't want to waste your time I'm not interested." I was like...what a great line. Thanks.
Plus we have a huge monster dog. But the lines DH gave me were golden.
ETA: Our closed neighborhood has a no soliciting sign at the entrance. They don't always work.
My sign doesn't stop the miscreant teenagers trying to sell me candy, but it does stop the adults! And having a menacing sign on your actual door seems to work a bit better than even living in a gated community.
I have a sign that says no unsolicited visitors. It helps most people. I still have a few that show up. The book guys really get on my nerves. So does the pot head across the street who has knocked up his 19 yr old girl friend yet again. He asks if he can mow the lawn for $20 when he runs out of weed money. He's actually come to the door saying, "Hey, I ran out of money for weed. Can I cut your grass for $20?" No, Fuucker! Get a job, support your GF and kid, and buy some damn condoms!
/rant over. sorry
I'm sorry. I agree with Stan put a sign up, it should help a bit. Also because you have little dogs like I do, and I know they can be LOUD, maybe get a beware of dog sign? Just to scare people off a bit.
We have a gate about 10 feet from our front door, and a door bell that no one can find. It makes me laugh, its right to the left of the gate and noticeable but we always get phone calls from friends and family that they are here and would like in because they can't find the silly door bell!
This. I've answered the door with a gun (obviously not pointed in their face) and our dane many times. It's always been harmless, but it's scary nonetheless.
