After seeing the previews my comment to MH was, "Well, I'm just surprised Helena Bonham Carter isn't it." And then I checked - she is.
Depp has actually said in interviews that this was a part he desperately wanted to play for years, so I think he is just as culpable;)
Burton can't make a film without the two of them! They actually make a pretty good team (Depp and Carter) - especially in Sweeney Todd.
