I've been sick with a cold/sinus situation since last weekend. Lots of congestion, coughing, etc. I have a half marathon next weekend (5/13) - my first one.
My last run was last Saturday (12 miles). I've also run 1-2 miles twice this week, but the coughing made things difficult.
I'm freaking out about my lack of mileage this week. So, given all of this, would you get out & try to run today? Do nothing? Try for something lighter (elliptical) that would be less likely to make me cough?
I have both a 6 & 8 mile run slated for this weekend. I'm okay with being slower than I'd hoped in my half. My only goal at this point is to run it & finish. I trained for six months last year for my first half, & broke a bone in my foot the week before, had to take six months off to heal, & this is the race I've been training for since the first of the year. ![]()
Re: Sick & freaking out - race question
Rest! You've already run 12 miles. You'll be fine for the race! The lack of mileage won't hurt your race, but going to it sick will. Let you body rest and get better. It's much better to go to the race a bit undertrained than sick. If you feel you need to do something, I would just do a couple really easy miles or some light cross training.
You'll be fine! Just rest up and feel better soon :-)
