2 days in Zurich

My husband and I will be spending 2 days in Zurich at the end of May. Does anyone have a hotel recommendation? Did you reserve your room from the hotel's website or book through another website like Priceline?

Also, any must-see attractions? I will be about 30 weeks pregnant at that point so we're going to take it easy but would love to do some walking and see a couple of must-see things while we're in the city.

Thank you!

Re: 2 days in Zurich

  • Helmhaus is a great little hotel is a GREAT location. We stay there whenever we go to Zurich. Its a small clean friendly place.

You should definitely got to the Zeughauskeller for dinner. Its crowded, loud, but tons of fun and good food.

  • Old Town is a good place to walk around and walking around by the lake. There is a beautiful botanic garden too. I liked going to the Lindenhof too.

The Swiss National museum would be the one place I would check out! There are other great museums but I think this is the most unique one for the amount of time you have.

I didn't really deal with the hotel side. DH worked at the Swissotel. It's not in city center but within 15 mins by tram and train. Nice hotel and the staff is trained well. The guest services are great and will give you details on where to eat/suggestions on what to do. Including printing maps and diving directions. But could be out of your price range.

Prime Tower (Tallest building in the city) has a sky lounge type thing. It wasn't opened yet when we moved back. But it should have great views! Otherwise the Grossmuenster you can climb the tower but that might be too much at 30 weeks pregnant. But again great views of the city.

  • Also,

You should take one of the Seilbahns too. I would suggest the one at Rigiblick because it's pretty fast to get to by tram and short. The view is nicer too. It's a short time waster as there isn't too much at the top. It's pretty and taking the Seilbahn is fun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seilbahn_Rigiblick

The other Seilbahn is the Dolder one. The top is pretty much covered by trees so unless you want to hike around the forest I wouldn't suggest it.

There is also the Polybahn which goes from the city up to the University. Very short and the University building architecture is very neat. Again nice view... Are you getting that there are a lot of nice views in this city. Wink Take the time to do this as it wouldn't take more then 20-30 minutes to explore. From the top of the Polybahn you can catch a Tram to Rigliblick. They are pretty close to each other.

The grocery stores Migros and Coop usually have good take away. It's less expensive then other options. You could do for a Doner at a take away stand too. Also buy your drinks at the grocery stores too. You will pay 1-1.50 CHF instead of the 3-4CHF if you got it outside at a food stand or a kiosk. Coop City has the grocery section in the basement.

Stop at the Spr?ngli chocolate shops. Get some Luxembourgli's (macaroons) They are a smaller version of the french ones and delicious!

Really  the Swissotel?  Did your husband transfer to the one in Chicago? Because  that  is where I work and  of course  I will  be staying at the one in  Zurich.

When we left there wasn't anything available for transfer. So he started from scratched when we moved. He went outside the hotel industry actually but now he misses it. And is putting his name out again.

Where the hotel was in Zurich was my old stomping grounds. We lived at the end of the tram line 10 minutes away. I did all my grocery shopping there and bought way to much nail polish at Coop city. Took the S-Train from the Oerlikon to my sitting jobs out of the city. When are you going? Hope you have a nice time.
