Charleston To Do's - We finally booked!
Any suggestions? My husband wants to visit the war sites, which is fine by me. I want to do something more along the girly side of things. I plan on visiting the big flea market type place while there. We are taking our pooch, too. So if you know of any pet friendly places there, please let me know! Thanks!

Just outside of the slave market there was a cute lil tasting room for Market Street Winery. We came across that place on accident, trying to get out of an afternoon rain. They had a honey mead that wasn't for sale but was pretty good and I really liked their strawberry wine. Good enough that we ended up shipping some of their wines home to Iowa.
Another thing is to visit one of the plantations. Some have very beautiful gardens and the homes are pretty also.
DH was really into the war sites too. We took a Civil War themed carriage tour through Classic Carriage Works. We both loved it. It was the same route as the others, just a different dialogue.
We also really liked just wandering around in the small streets and alleys around Rainbow Row to look at all the pretty houses.

Haunted night walking tour was a lot of fun
The horse carriage tours are a must-do, there are three routes, and all of the driver/guides have to pass a rigorous knowledge exam to earn the job.
Just walking around Charleston is wonderful as pp mentioned there is Rainbow Row on The Battery and King Street has great shopping.
It's nice to drive out and see a plantation, I've been to Magnolia, the grounds are really beautiful and you can take a nice, long walk.
Another short drive will get you to Angel Oak, it is reputed to be the oldest living tree east of the Mississippi. It's seriously one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Or you could drive out to the beaches, Folly or John's Island.
The slave market has become full of touristy craap that you can buy anywhere, but if you look hard there are some local artists represented who do beautiful pen and ink, watercolors and photography of the area.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
