I am officially a convert to those slim hangers! and closet organization help please!

What a difference!!  I have to go back to BB&B tomorrow to pick up some more.... but it's going to clear up so much room in my closet. It already has and I feel way less stressed when I walk in there... haha. :)

NOW how do you organize your clothes?  All dresses together, all sweaters together, all skirts together, all tops together?  What about work tops vs weekend tops?

Re: I am officially a convert to those slim hangers! and closet organization help please!

  • Right now, I only have skirts and dresses in the actual closet. (Everything else is on a shelf or in a drawer.) I color code the clothes that I hang. Starting with white and ending with black, I hang first skirts and then dresses. I color coded when I used to hang shirts and pants as well. Everything was split up by shirts, pants, sweaters and then placed with like-colored items.

  • I organize by type, then color.

My cardigans and sweaters are in one of those XL fabric boxes from target (they come flat)

  • Oh, and nice move on the hangers! I love them, my H is nuts lol.
  • Obsessed with those hangers!

I go by type then color as well. Tops are just separated by short sleeve and long sleeve, not occasion or fanciness.

  • Did it really make more room in the closet?

After having like 20 feet of hanging space, we now share like 6. :( It's bad. I'd determined to purge down to making my clothes fit in the closet and dresser (and maybe a couple tubs of out of season stuff!). If a hanger investment will help I'm down it it...although I do love how my dark wood hangers all look.

  • type then color. tank tops, short sleeved shirts, long sleeved shirts, skirts, pants, jeans, and dresses. all organized by color. I haven't completed converted my closet to those slim hangers but I love them and want to. I do use those rods that you hang from the upper rods to make an upper and lower rod, to double my space.

  • I am the same as others: by type and then sort of by color.

  • Thanks guys!

Yes it really did create space in my closet. My mom looked at the huge pile of old hangers on the floor and then at the clothes hung in my closet and couldn't believe all those hangers came from the hanging clothes! There is a lot more room. And the pant holder is awesome - it can hold 5 pairs of pants from top to bottom, so it takes up WAY less room than how I used to hang pants.
  • Did you get the Real Simple ones at BBB?  Just looking online to decide where to go...

  • I did!  They seem like the same exact thing.
  • Link please?

  • You'll love the extra space! I converted when we moved since I'd have to move all our clothes anyway, and I love having the space. I have the Real Simple ones from BBB, and I also like that you can hang them on the hooks to stack off season clothing for added space.

Like many PP's, I organize by type of garment, then color. For dresses, I do casual dresses, then fancier dresses, then maxi dresses on the end.
