Long flight--what's in your carry-on?
We leave soon for our trip to London (so excited!)
Besides a change of clothing and important medications, what do you pack in your carry on bag?
Re: Long flight--what's in your carry-on?
I never check a bag so I carry on everything. My purse--which will be most accessible--has my laptop, kindle, a scarf, iPod, noise canceling headphones, passport, wallet, lip balm, lotion and any work files I need to access while in transit if traveling for work (almost always am).
Pretty much this. I also have a pashmina and a pillow.
I also usually carry everything on, so this is what I have in my daypack that goes at my feet.
iPad with plenty of books and movies loaded, headphones, a magazine or crossword puzzle for takeoff, sweater or oversized hoodie, fuzzy socks (I typically wear sandals to make it easier through security and then my feet get cold.), eye mask, travel pillow, chapstick, small snack (pretzels, goldfish crackers, etc.), empty water bottle (so I can fill up in the airport instead of buying bottled once I'm through security), other items I want easy access to like camera, wallet, phone, etc.

My heart is as open as the sky.
Read about it on the blog
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
For really any flight - my always packed carry-on contains:
1220winter pretty much covered it.
I would add - fill the water bottle at the airport after you go through security. I like to have water avail when I wake up. The plane gets very dry. I have been on a flight when they ran out of water in coach.
When I travel for work I carry my work shoes, a clean pair of undergarments and one pair of work pants. I figure if they lose my luggage all I need is a top which is easy to buy. I travel in comfy clothes - leggings, tshirt top. I also carry my translator and maps so I have them when I arrive. Also carry your valuables - camera, money, etc.
Wow! Some of you bring a lot of stuff!
For my trips overseas:
chapstick
contacts /solution
glasses
toothbrush/toothpaste
hair ties
bottled water
something to read
something to listen to
noise canceling headphones
phone + charger
socks
snacks
neck pillow
I always wear some variation of leggings, a tunic and a cardigan.
passport & frequent flyer cards
inflatable TravelRest pillow
inflatable foot rest
earplugs
eyemask
SkullCandy noise-isolating earbuds
airline headphone adapter
pen (absolutely bring a pen to fill out your landing card)
hair elastic
ibuprofen & Pepto Bismol
panty liner
book (a real book for taxi, takeoff, and landing)
iPad
printouts of flight & hotel reservations
(Aside from the book, iPad, and printouts that all stays packed in my carry-on so I don't forget anything)
ETA - Of course any jewelry, electronics, and/or other valuables go carry-on as well. They're just not specific to the long flight.
