XP from Pets Dog Food recall
Re: XP from Pets Dog Food recall
*series of curse words*
not only does that include our current food, but every single one of our backup foods. what the everliving hell?
I had a mini-heart attack and then read what it's for. I'm not all that concerned about salmonella in the pet food. I'll just have to doubly watch that ZB doesn't make it a snack.
All of those foods are manufactured in the same plant. Salmonella has been confirmed in two of the brands, so as a precaution, they recalled everything that was made in the plant at the same time as the contaminated food.
You know, when I spend $50 for a freaking bag of dog food, I'd like to think it's safe.
I thought that dogs weren't affected by Salmonella? But I am concerned that my 15 month old is constantly shoving his hand in the dog food, and as much as we try to stay on top of it, he's quick!
Interesting, is this the thing that all started because people were getting sick from eating the dog food?
sorry, wasn't a serious question, just an exclamation of the suck.
They're not really, hence why I'm not worried. Salmonella is always a concern when handling dog/cat food. Hence why I'm trying to break ZB of eating it as a snack.
I was going to go out during lunch and buy a replacement food (Fromm's or Orijen) and dump all of the TOTW we have. I threw away the bag so can't check to see if it was part of the recall.
So you're telling me this is an overreaction? lol
Yes. :oD Basically, wash your hands after handling pet food. The only danger in this instance is cross contamination such as what might happen if you handle raw chicken. Hand washing should be something that should automatically happen regardless if there is a recall or not.
From reading the articles associated with the recall, it sounds like people weren't taking proper hand washing precautions after handling the food. Dogs can also be carriers of Salmonella and pass it through their fecal matter. Which, again, you should be washing your hands after picking that up.
I tried Orijen (LOVED the company) with my cats, but it didn't agree with their tummies. I've been using Blue Buffalo Wilderness since then and it seems to be working well.
Is Fromm's a lot better? Do they make a cat food? (No grain, high protein, obviously).

if you really cared about your pets, you would be making your dogs' food homemade every day with organic meats, vegetables and homeopathic supplements like my SMIL. Then you wouldn't have this little problem, now would you?
My cats will only eat California Natural so I have no personal experience with Fromm cat food, but honestly call them. They are very forthcoming with their information. I found this, but can't verify any of it's truth.
Fromm's Surf & Turf

Fromm's is one of the best foods out there today. 4 of the first 5 ingredients are named meat products. No by-products, and no fillers. That this means to you and your cat is that your kitty will be eating high quality meats and NOT by-products like beaks and feet. Your cat also won't be loaded full of worthless grains only included into foods so that the manufacturer can make more money.
Fromm's is a company that cares about the health of your pet. It's obvious in that they not only use many meat sources, but they also put in veggies such as peas and sweet potatoes which are very beneficial to your cat. Heck, they even throw in cheese, flaxseed, and salmon oil. The latter two are wonderful fatty acids for heart health, and the first one is a great source of calcium. Plus, cats LOVE cheese....any cat owner can attest to that.
Yes, it's more expensive than Cat Chow, but your cat will eat far less of this because since there's no filler, it takes less to meet their nutritional needs. This is something some cat owners don't understand....pound for pound, good food is more expensive but it takes them longer to eat it...so it balances out a bit in the end and your cat is healthier. How can a person argue against that?
By the way....the "surf" in this is salmon...and the "turf" is duck and chicken. Wait, is the duck the surf or the turf?? Hmmm.
What's good about this food....Very high animal protein content of high quality, flax and salmon oils, good amount of vegetables and fruits, whole eggs.
....and what's not so good.Nothing to mention.

my kitteh eats the Fromm Duck Ala Veg. He lurves it. he has FLUTD and he hasn't had a flare up since he's been on it.
I use these: http://www.stellaandchewys.com/

I can't open the link from work, and I can't check our lot number either... We feed TOTW lamb (? It's in the purple bag) to our basset who has the stomach of a goat. Im taking from Pixy that I shouldn't be too concerned about her eating the food, more about ensuring proper hygiene after feeding her, correct?
Sorry forthe dumb/repeat questions.... I hate our work filter.
I would check the specific type of food...it looks like it varies by type: http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/home/NB_recall.html.
Correct.
Really, I'd wouldn't switch if I had food from the recalled batch, but I live dangerously.
Pixy is right. Dogs and cats have highly acidic, short digestive tracts. That's why they can eat raw meat.
We feed Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul as a dry food. I will check the lot/expiration when I get home, but I'm not concerned. I'm sure my cats have eaten nastier things than a few salmonella microbes. :-)

Is that a book?
my read shelf:
It's a brand of pet food.
It is also a book
, like all those cheesy "Chicken Soup for the ___ Soul" books... that's what I think of every time someone talks about that food.
Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
Our state isn't on the list and my dates aren't either, but I'm still overly paranoid.
Could be that I just spent $3000 on bloat surgery, aspiration pneumonia and megaesophagus last week for my great dane and the 2 year anniversary of the death of my other great dane is tomorrow.
