Because dammit, I can't wait - we just saw this last night with the kids, and will probably go again tonight since I missed about 10 minutes.
I LOVED it. And that means it was freakin' amazing, since I expected to love it due to Joss Whedon directing. But he slayed me.
My favorite points:
- LOVED the rapport established between the two geniuses: Bruce Banner and Tony Stark.
- LOVED the dialogue, masterminded for the ensemble by Joss. One of the reasons I couldn't wait to see this was knowing I'd hear Robert Downey Jr. delivering Joss Whedon lines, and it didn't disappoint!
- I really liked that not every extra side-character to the super heroes was included... in short, they didn't blow their whole wad in this first film.
- I loved that it was dramatic/psychological as well as action/adventure. Although I got very sad at the loss of Coulson.
He was one of my favorite non-super-hero characters. Makes sense now that Joss had directed him in a side scene (not in the movie) where he kicks ass in a gas station. http://io9.com/5850540/watch-agent-coulson-kick-so-much-ass-in-his-latest-marvel-short
- I want to have intimate times with Hawkeye. YUM.
- Any other Joss/Buffy fans - did you take the destruction in the first sequence as an homage to the last ep of Buffy? Because I sure as hell did.
And lastly, I LOVED the very final post-credits scene. I couldn't stop laughing.
Re: Avengers - SPOILER thread, accolades, etc.
DH called it at the very beginning. He said, "Joss Whedon always kills off the beloved character." I got a little misty!
The dialogue and one-liners made the movie. I also appreciated that the action scenes weren't just mindless explosions. When Hulk beat the everlovinghell out of Loki, I thought I might pee my pants.
OMG, THIS. The audience applauded at that - it was perfect. Rag doll time, puny god!
I effing loved the whole movie. Rag doll time, was my favorite too!! I laughed so hard I have to go back to catch little one liners I may have missed.
one question though: at the end the outerspace scene...who was the alien talking to, I am not "up" on all my comic characters I guess, cause I have no idea who turned around.
oh and the line where when asked "without your suit of armor what would you be" to Tony's reply " A billionaire, genius, playboy, philantrhopist". I died, just died!! Perfection in this movie's dialogue!!!
DH knew who it was, but he's more up on the comic book characters than I am: Thanos, and I guess he's the new villain for the next movie.
It's Thanos, a villain from the Thor universe.
I thought the movie was great! I was a little nervous because although I love all of Whedon's shows, he can go a little overboard with snarky lines sometimes. But it all worked very well, I think each character got an appropriate amount of screen time. It was really long, but didn't feel too long.
There were two after-credits scenes, the one introducing Thanos, then at the VERY end of the credits. Its just the characters sitting around eating Shawarma (mentioned by iron man earlier), but good laugh anyway.
I loved when RDJ poked Banner with something and then leaned in to see check his eyes and see if he was going to be all rage-y. LOL!
And the "genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" line was priceless.
This was one of my favorite parts of the movie. Also when the Hulk punches Thor.
Didn't see it but wanted to see what y'all had to say about it. I look forward to seeing it when it's out on video.
I also need to (I think) see Captain America and Thor before seeing it. Started Captain America yesterday and just couldn't get into it after watching around 45 minutes.
Yeah, you need to see these two. We watch CA on Friday night. ZOMG, snoozefest.
Although, apparently some people like it. There was a family on Saturday that was completely blinged out in CA gear from head to toe.
Yeah my 18 yo SIL loved the crap out of CA. I need to smack her.
Out of all the setup movies I've only seen Thor (meh) and the first Iron Man, but I didn't have any trouble following along, so I think it would be safe to skip Captain America. I thought that movie looked like sh?t when it came out, and I kind of hated the CA character in this movie, so I think I was right to skip seeing it.
I also hadn't seen any of the hulk movies, but really got into the Hulk in this one.
I loved the Stan Lee cameo towards the end and it made me laugh, but I think half the audience didn't get it or realize it was him.
Yeah, Thor and Iron Man are must sees. Iron Man 2 I loved because of Sam Rockwell and his fancy footwork.
This. This the only component I was iffy on because I did so love Norton's Banner/Hulk (that was my favorite set-up movie of all of them). But I 'fessed to DH after it was over that Ruffalo converted me. I totally jumped and felt the fear of the "other guy" in that shack moment. And I loved how she had the reinforcements stand down - she was scared sh!tless. That was DH's favorite of her moments... I liked where she played cray-cray Loki like a violin.
I couldn't believe how funny it was and now I'm mad I apparently missed something. The last scene we saw was the alien guy smiling (H would divorce me if he knew I referred to them as the alien guy.)
I was overall very impressed. H raved about the awesomeness of it.
We saw it in IMAX 3D which was a compromise for me because I hate IMAX, it's just so loud.
my read shelf:
I was at a middle of the afternoon showing where the majority of the people there were there for free because it was a morale event for work.
ZOMG she plays the Russians, she plays Loki, but Banner plays her like a fiddle. That is ALL emotional intelligence. I love that they acknowledged that the introspection required to keep 'the other guy' in check (and I totally dig when they call him that) means that he has more than cold, scientific intellect.
OMG OMG OMG - more Buffy AW: The Other (the main alien dude Loki confers with in scenes) was played by Alexis Denisof! (that would be Wesley from Buffy/Angel series)
Why do I know this, you ask? Because DH & I went to see the 3D showing last night and I saw his name in the credits. Gawd, I can't wait until it comes out on bluray!
