Hello

I was hoping someone could toss out some ideas for me.... My DH is a musican, so he has a lot of instruments and "gear." Two amps, two electric guitars, an accousic guitar, and a sitar (a very big/tall Indian instrument that vaguely resembles a guitar), along with music books, stands, etc...
The problem is, we don't have a spare bedroom or basement area for an office/music room. We have our bedroom which is quite small, a dining room, and a decently sized living room. When DH had the house as a bachelor, he just had all the musical instruments all over the living room and dining room and he didn't care. But I care! I'd like my home to look more homey and put together.
I did make a bit of progress, but it's nowhere near enough. Our living room is fairly long, so I arranged the furniture so the couch and reclining chair section off about 2/3rds of the living room to more of a "living" space and the other 1/3rd is where an organ is and all of his musical instruments. Except, it just looks like a bunch of cases and amps shoved into a corner behind the reclining chair now. It's better than it was, but it's still quite unsightly and chaotic.
There's no large closet or spare room for all this stuff to be stored... Does anyone have any ideas for how to incorporate the instruments into the house so that he has access to them without it looking like a shoved pile of black boxes and bulky cases? There's GOT to be a way of making it look like a music area or something that looks half way decent.... I just can't seem to figure out what to do. Help?

Re: Musical instruments cluttering up my house!
I have no suggestions for you, my father currently has: 59 guitars, 4 basses, a lute, a sitar, 5 Dobros, 12, mandolins, a violin, and I'm sure at least 15 other random strung instruments.
He has taken over: the basement studio, the basement bedroom, the living room, the dining room, the office, and the sunroom.
My cousin is a musician. His wife created special boxes (like shadow boxes only bigger) for each of his stringed instruments. Each one is labelled with the name/type of instrument (Gibson 12-string etc). His three amps are hidden under their buffet (a deep shelf that is painted the color of their dining room walls with a beautiful fabric stapled to it). She then glued on fabric trim to hide the staples. She painted the dining room a deep red because that color coordinated with his instruments best.
She claims that the hardest part was convincing him to put things away.
My FI has 4 guitars now and I tried to talk him into buying brackets to hang them on the wall but he didn't want to!
At the time there was only one that he had that was a "show piece" and he would rather keep it hidden away since its very valuable. Currently two are on floor stands in the spare bedroom and two are put away in a closet. He does not play on a regular basis.
I am happy for him to display them but I don't want them on the floor as we have a "Territorial" cat, so they aren't safe there.
