Anyone have a vanity?

We're moving into a place with 1 bathroom (we decided to go with one with two bedrooms thankfully! So closet space won't be an issue). That said, SO and I talked about getting my a vanity/makeup-hair area. Anyone have one that they love? I saw a cute one at World Market yesterday, but it was $200ish. If I can't find another one I like, I might go for it.

Re: Anyone have a vanity?

  • Check out craigslist you might be able to find a vanity or a desk that you like that you can put a mirror over.

  • I have this one from WM.

The top actually has a decent amount of space but the drawer isn't huge.

  • I have an antique one that I've had since I was a little girl, but I've also always thought this was great:

  • No, but I want one!  Right now I've been sitting on a bench in our living room that is in front of a big mirror to put on makeup.  We're going to be renovating a bathroom soon, so I've been pinning vanities on Pinterest for ideas, as I definitely want one in the bathroom (there is no room in any of the bedrooms).

I'm in love with this one from PB Teen, but it's like $1,600 (more than I want to spend).  More than likely I'll end up looking on Craigslist to do something that looks like one of the vanities below.

  • I have this one.  My only complaint is that the flip-top mirror cuts off half of my forehead because it sits slightly low(I'm 5'2").  Either that or the bench should be a little shorter.  Otherwise, I really like it for the price.  I can store all of my make-up in the niche below the mirror(I added a couple of plastic organizing trays), my backlit magnifying mirror with a hair brush and styling tool on top, and make-up brushes/cotton swaps, combs, etc. supplies in the side drawers.

  • I got a vanity similar to the PB teen at a second hand store for around $130 and refinished it. (it wasnt in bad shape but it was "white" that had yellowed...

    Seventh Anniversary

I got the narrow leg vanity from west elm a while go during a huge sale. Not on sale, the price is kinda high:/ But I really love it and it's very sleek looking as well. The compartment under the lift-up mirror is slightly shallow so I usually leave it open so I can put some taller things like perfume in there.

Here's a link. You may be able to find one used somewhere.

  • My husband made me one and I adore it.  I had a good sized mirror on the wall already, and he made me a desk-like vanity with three drawers on either side and one shallow one right in the middle.  He ordered gorgeous little crystal nobs to go on the drawers...

Anyway, if you like that $200 one, I'd go for it.  I can't imagine life without this thing now that I have it.

I love the mirrored vanity set that pier one has or had but it was pricey.  But not ridiculous restoration hardware kind of pricey.

THIS is so similar to the one I liked at World Market...and it's much cheaper. Thanks for the link! If I don't find another one I like I will order this one :)

  • The World Market one is on sale (here at least) for $149 or something. Just noticed the flyer yesterday.

IKEA has one - MALM I think, for about $120-ish. And they also have a HEMNES one (that I really like the look of that comes with a nice, big mirror) for about $249.

  • I love this idea that I saw on Pinterest:

OMG. I love that....I must check out Pinterest later when I get home

  • Yeah, I love that photo. So simple, but beautiful. Glad I could help.

I'm not sure if you have a Home Goods by you, but the one by me has had some *awesome* mirror end tables/desks and some awesome mirrors as well. All pretty cheap compared to other stores.

    Good luck!

  • Oh, here's another simple idea that I love:

    Vanity dressing table.

Here's this one from Urban Outfitters.  It's $249 (so more than you would want to spend) but I think it's nice to use as an idea

I recently helped my friend redo her room (for rental apt); we bought an almost identical table from target, a cube storage ottoman than she can put on the base of table when not in use and a mirror to sit on top for less than $100.
  • We got a white desk from target just a couple of months ago for only $79 and put an awesome mirror above it from IKEA for very cheap. It works great, I have all my make up and things and also use it for my laptop or to write. good luck :o)

  • I do and it's very old but I love it.
  • I bought one from Craigslist a couple years ago. I absolutely love it.

Mine is similar to this. It's straight leg instead of the queen anne style and the stool is round

Thanks for asking this! I've been wanting one, too, and plan to buy one after we move.

  • MH made me one...we based it off of Ana White plans and the West Elm 2x2 console desk, because I already had some basket storage of makeup/hair stuff that worked with it.
