End of the school year teacher gifts....
I think this is a bit over the top, but apparently a parent in a different class than my child, gave the teacher an iPad.
And here I was worrying it was inapproriate to give her a $50 gift card to target.
Re: End of the school year teacher gifts....
We are done in less than 2 weeks for the summer, but we go back early August.

Is your school hiring??
The PTA provided a catered breakfast for us this morning, but that's as extravagant as it gets. And I work in an affluent area.
They are :-)
My son's room mothers have arranged for us to provide her with lunch every day this week, plus dinner for her family (gift cards to her favorite restaurants, caseroles, etc). My son also had to bring a flower and a homemade card today (this I like).

An iPad!??!?! There's no way I could accept something like that. I think our district has rules on the dollar amount, anyway.
I'd even feel weird about accepting a $50 gc.

What do you think is a good amount for teacher appreciation week? Keeping in mind we would also do something at the end of the year...
I know Mass had rules that said teachers were public employees and subject to the same bribe rules and people working in the insurance and banking commission offices... so no gifts valued over $20. I think Alabama said outright no teacher gifts.
I think $50 is the max. $25 is probably better, but it depends. $50 to Staples so she can buy school supplies is different than $50 to Banana Republic.

I do a gift card to Amazon or Barnes and Noble so she can either buy books for herself or her classroom.
A WHAT????
DH and i were talking about this last night. i was going to get grace's teacher a GC to the local wine shop but he found out she has a weakness for the local creamery. i thought a $20 GC would be appropriate. now i have to think about upgrading that to a $500 GC to keep up with the Joneses!

I agree. I'd love an i-pad, but not as a gift from a kid. Even $50 is well beyond what I would expect from a child.
We are a school with 40% economically disadvantaged students; we don't get anything at the end of the year. That's alright with me. I always kept my evaluations with the nice comments on them. A kid told me that he aced his achievement test and I prepared him well for it, which made me happier than a gift. :-)
Huh. I was just going to get W's teacher a movie gift card.
