Why do prunes get a bad rap?

Why does no one like them. ?I only discovered them recently because I was scared off by everyone's detest of them. ?They taste really good! ?Does this mean that my taste buds are way off?

Re: Why do prunes get a bad rap?

  • I think they get a bad rap because old people need to eat them/drink prune juice for medical reasons. ;)

That said, I don't like how they taste, but I'm not a huge plum fan, either.

  • MMmm I love prunes. I suspect that people associate them with staying regular and old people, both of which aren't cool.

I think Sunsweet is trying to make prunes hip again with new advertising.  They have individually wrapped prunes, which makes them seem more like candy, or something? I dunno but it looks like a waste of packaging to me.

Ditto that. Unnecessary packaging is one of my pet peeves.

Also, why would you ruin a perfectly good plum?

  • I like them, too. I think part of the prune campaign included calling them "dried plums." I wonder how they got to be called prunes anyway.

For cooking, prune butter is really great in pastries, cookies, etc. It has the same consistency as pumpkin butter if you've ever had that - also very yummy!

Same reason dried grapes are called raisins.  No good one.  I love plums but I'm not a big fan of dried fruit.  I don't like concentrated sweetness.

  • Because they make me think of pooping the way no other dried fruit does.

Prunes + constipated baby = bad, bad, BAD things!
