NFBR - Need ideas for dinners for sick friend

A friend of mine(single mom of 4-year old) is going in for surgery next week and will have a 6 week recovery time.  I'm not the best cook so I'm looking for ideas that are pre-made, outside of the frozen food aisle lasgana.  I'm open to other ideas too, another friend is bringing her a basket of trashy mags and all that good stuff so that's taken care of.

TIA

  • Salad kits are easy,  also Costco has assortments of ready food, that all you do is heat up/bake in the oven like meatloaf, chicken alfredo, etc.

I really enjoy Trader Joe's prepared foods, whether in the refrigerated or freezer aisles.  Maybe a multi-pack of bottled water.

I would get her the Hunger Games books and/or 50 Shades of Grey.  I am reading the HG books now but haven't read 50 Shades yet.

  • Rotisserie chicken?

Just be careful of rotisserie chicken at a generic supermarket.  Unless you go to a place that specializes in rotisserie chickens, like Boston Market, I would not buy one at a supermarket.  They use chickens that have been sitting on the shelf for awhile and did not sell.

Gross, I'm going to have to have a little discussion with my grocer next time I stop in - that's not right.

  • You can cook something in the crockpot and bring it to her, chicken is always good, or pasta. It's good for soups too and you can make enough to last a few days.
