Susan G Komen - comeback kid tactics

So my kindergartener is now singing the national anthem at the start of the local Komen Race for the Cure.  He's super excited and all K kids get a race discount, so he wants to race also.  He knows it's for cancer...but I'm not sure he knows what that means.

Guess the campaign has figured out another way to motivate families to get involved...who wants to be the mom who won't let their kid sing the "National Anthem for sick cancer people" as my kid put it?  Wink

  • Don't they sing the national anthem at all races in the US - whether they're cancer related or not?

  • Not all the races I've been at sing the national anthem - most don't.  But most of my races benefited smaller community groups.

Either way, inviting all kindergarteners in the city to sing is one way to get families involved whether they planned to be or not in the first place.

ETA:  Guess that shows that I've only participated in the Komen race once and don't remember a national anthem at the start.

  • Didn't you say you had a family commitment that day?

Or was it a doctor's appointment?

    Locusts?

Wow - even my local turkey trot has the national anthem.

You're going to Chucky Cheese for lunch - four hours away.

All kidding aside, the races start at the crack of dawn, I wouldn't be happy to get my Kindergarten up that early to go sing. At least the particular Kindergarten I am thinking of is anything but cooperative when she's tired and she's not a morning person to begin with. ::shudders at the imaginary tantrum::
