I am going to look at yet another house tomorrow. I am getting pretty burnt out on looking because everything I find tends to have a pretty big downside... Anyway, I found a short sale that backs up to a lake and is about 2,000 sf with 4 beds, 2.5 baths. The house looks really nice and I am excited about it. However, today I did some more research on it and checked out the nearby neighborhood. The subdivision itself is really nice but just across the main road is a rather large mobile home neighborhood.
I voiced my concerns with our realtor, and he said that it depends on if you can see the neighborhood from the house. If you can, it can hurt the value quite a bit, if not, no big deal at all.
What do you ladies think? Like I said, the house looks great, and has what we are looking for. Thoughts?
Thank you!
Re: Potential House
You don't have to drive through it, but it is across the street from the sub. As for crime this is what Trulia pulled up:

I wouldn't call the area a high crime area. Its out in the sticks compared to where we are living now. Small town. Also this does NOT mean that these incidents came from that neighborhood. Ok wait... take that back, just notice that Trulia does pin point where the crimes were. How accuarate is that?
I wouldn't automatically assume a trailer park is a bad thing. Is it a "nice" trailer park where the places are maintained or is it a junky one with rusty trailers and items scattered across yards. Because I have seen both.
Definitely check out crime reports. If it bothers you, then I wouldn't buy the place. DH and I were completely opposed to buying a place that had an apartment complex nearby, which is a challenge in a large metro suburb! But, for the same reasons you are questioning the trailer park, we didn't want to own property near complexes. Follow your gut.
