Best vacuum?

What do you all recommend as far as vacuums go? We're tired of striking out with shlitty vacuums and are ready to drop a few bucks on a good one. Bonus points if it's not overly loud or heavy. Thanks!

  • Miele and Dyson are both excellent quality. We have 2 Dyson and a Miele.P.S. I have only experience with the upright models.

I have the miele bolero and love it. Two of my coworkers (one in her 40's and one in his 60's) have miele's as well, and have used them for years. On guy has two big dogs (I think akedas ?sp) that shed like crazy and he's a little OCD, so I trusted his rec. Also, for a true Heppa filter, you need a bag system because when you use a bagless, you are just realeasing the particles in the air again when you dump it.

  • I have a Dyson Animal (without the ball) and I'm underwhelmed. My coworker has a Miele that she loves and I'll probably get one of those next time around.
  • I have a Shark Navigator and I love it.

It's going on 3 years old and still looks like brand new!

I have a ton of dirt in and out of my house and it takes care of it all.

It's very affordable and works great...I just couldn't see shelling out $500.00 on a vaccuum.

I had my carpets cleaned in February (The first time in 6 years!) and the carpet guy asked me what kind of vac I had becuase he hadn't seen a carpet so clean for it's age and lack of cleaning. The solution was gray when he was done but not black and it very little chunks/ground in dirt in it.

  • I have a Dyson Animal (not the ball) and I was shocked at what it picked up when I used it the first time. However, my SIL and brother got a dud and they ended up trading it for $300 towards a Kirby and they're happy with the Kirby. (Those things are expensive and the only reason they got one is because my mom bought one probably a dozen or more years ago and it's still kicking. And the carpet shampooer attachment is awesome.)

I also have and love my Shark Navigator. It was recommended to me by a friend. I was unsure, but it was cheap so I decided to give it a try before dropping big bucks on something else.

Everytime I use it, I'm super impressed. It does an amazing job and pulls up a ton of dog hair. I also like that it comes with attachments that has it's own little beater bar and a hose long enough to do all of my stairs.

  • My parents, sister and I all have the Dyson Animal and we all love it, it's a must if you have animals.

  • Miele here too. I love that it is quiet for a vacuum. It's been going almost 4 years with no issues. It's the canister type.
    This is my AE.
