Poll: Favorite makeup product (Also FOTD, beauty products reviews/purchases)

What is your favorite makeup item that is not a foundation, mascara, or other basic (something that looks natural and is just to perfect the skin)?  I'm looking for the item that you put on and think, wow, that really looks great!  Maybe a lipstick, eye shadow, blush, etc.

Mine is hands down the Maybelline Color Tattoo Shadows.  I am nuts about these things and I have almost all of them.  The colors are pretty, they are a breeze to put on quickly with only a fingertip, and they last a long time without creasing even with no primer.  If you haven't tried this, you need to.  I typically apply the white color Too Cool above the crease of my eye, and then one of the other colors on my lid.

Here is my FOTD, which was a very, very quick look as I was in a hurry.

Face:  Clinique BB, Cover Girl pressed powder, Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Dollface, and Revlon Skinlights Illuminator on tops of cheeks.

Eyes: Maybelline color tattoo in Too Cool and I was in such a hurry that I'm not sure if I used Bad to the Bronze or Pomegranate Punk on the lid.  I thought I used the bronze, but in this picture it looks more like Pomegranate Punk, lol.  Whichever color it is, I applied very lightly because I was in such a hurry, so it is very subtle.  Maybelline The Falsies mascara.

Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie.

I am obsessed with Burberry Lip Mist & Lip Cover. I have extremely dry lips, and a bad habit of wiping off lip products because my lips always feel irritated. The lip mists are super moisturizing, and give such pretty, sheer-ish color to my lips. I've got Blueberry, which is way out of my normal nude-lips comfort zone. It's beautiful. The Lip Covers are moisturizing, long-lasting, and gorgeous. I have Rosewood & Cameo Pink.

I want, like, 10 more shades. But they're a little steep at $30 a pop.

And I had a makeup session at MAC on Sunday and am trying their MAC Prep + Prime Eye starting today.  I need to go see if everything is sitting in the crease of my eye or not.

As for product, I don't know. I tend to like everything.

Reviews: theBalm Meet Matt(e) palette is really underwhelming me. I like the colors, I like the pigmentation, but it doesn't play nice with other brands (hard to blend), and it didn't have staying power even with primer. My MAC shadow that I tried to blend with it completely overpowered it by the end of the day.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

Broken record here but I really love my UDNP, the original.  I have UDNP2, but I don't like the colors as much as the original palette.

I really love my Clinique bottom lash mascara, I use it for my upper lashes too.  I think it's a tube mascara too so it doesn't give me raccoon eyes.

I always feel better with something on my lips.  My favorite lipstick is Dior Ultra Shine lipstick, it's so nourishing and looks like I'm wearing a little gloss over the color.  I have it in a nude color and it makes my lips look sex-ay.  lol

For me, it's gotta be the Diorskin shimmer star in amber diamond. I use it as a highlight, eyeshadow, it even works as bronzer for someone with lighter skin. So gorgeous and makes my skin glow. Sometimes I use it in place of blush as well.

Here's a link. It's pricey but seriously lasts forever.

  • I'm loving Dr. Jart+'s BB cream in the gold tube.  I got it in Sephora's Sun Safety Kit and tried it yesterday night.  It went on really even and lasted in the heat really well.  The color worked like Vita Zing and wasn't dark on my fair skin.

I'm also in love with Shiseido's Urban sunscreen in the white and silver tube.  It really doesn't sweat off, moisturizes incredibly well, and is super light.  It's watery, but a little goes a very long way. It's more moisturizer than sunscreen.  I got that in the Sun Safety Kit too.  That's easily the best $30 I've spent on anythiing beauty related all year.

  •  Fresh Sugar Rose tinted lip treatment is the best :)

Also, I love MAC's Strobe cream and Strobe liquid. Really good when you don't want to wear any makeup at all.

I really like my eyeshadow today so here it is:

     image

EYES:MAC Paintpot in Other Worldly and Haunting eyeshadow from the Alexander McQueen launch, and MAC Folie in the crease. All that Glitters as the highlight. Eyeliner is ELF cream liner.

I've been eyeballing that kit pretty hard. I might have to get it now.

  • Bobbi Brown gel eyeliners and Sonia Kashuk makeup brushes (I have Chanel and MAC brushes, but I prefer these cheapies).

Good rec.  I love my amber diamond shimmer too.  It looks really good in the daytime and so good at night.

Get it if you can!  All the proceeds go to the Skin Cancer Foundation.  Some of the samples look really small, but go a very long way.  I got one for my Mom for Mother's Day and one for me.

I don't think it's specific products that make the biggest difference for me, as much as specific techniques. For example, POWDER is a basic product that makes a huge difference when I get shiny at mid-day. CONCEALER (which for me, is just my regular foundation on a small brush) makes an enormous difference at the outside corners of my eyes, where my skin is a little darker, and along the lower outside lipline, where my mouth turns down more than I want it too... applying a line of foundation with a chisel brush makes my mouth turn up at the corners, which gives me a much more pleasant and relaxed facial expression. It's like lipliner on the outside of your lips, and it really defines them.

    2. Lancome lip gloss

    3. MUFE lip liner in 15C

    4. Laura Mercier in fair blonde

    5. MAC lipstick in Viva Glam Nicki, Ravishing

    6. Lancome lipstick in Pink Preview

it took a lot for me not to name my foundation, powder, concealer and mascara.

Oh, and I have a review of the two blushes I recently bought.

I like L'Oreal True Match (about $10) better than Buxom True Hue about $25).

That's disappointing.  I saw that you purchased this and was looking forward to a review.  I bought theBalm's Nude Tude palette (shipped yesterday) and hope I like it more than you like this palette!

  • Chanel Illusion d'ombre eyeshadows are my favorite eyeshadows.

I also love Origins Vitazing as a moisturizer/primer before foundation.

You should. Just remember what I told you about sticking with a lighter color! And use your own brush, what they give you ain't worth a damn.

  • I have pale skin so a pop of color on my cheeks & lids is important. I'm a huge fan of Stila lip stains. Tarte amazon clay blush in either dollface, amused or natural beauty. Now that it is getting hot out I notice it doesn't stay for 8 hrs like it did in the winter...sad

I also can't say enough about the maybelline age rewind illuminator...I use it for my dark circles and all around my eyes....sometimes on my cheeks too

ETA: not a beauty product but a good eyebrow wax makes all the difference too...

  • I should add...I wish I could find a gloss that isn't sticky and moisturizing to go over lip stains. I look so good with glossy finish on my lips, but I hate the drying effect.

-Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes in any shade, but especially Natural Beauty,  Exposed, and Amused
