Hair Smoothing Serum

Ever since moving to NC my hair has been a giant frizzball, and has even developed a less-than-adorable wave to it. It wasn't like this when I used to live here, but oh well. Switching to the cleansing conditioner has helped, but I need something for after my shower, too.

Coconut oil works, but I'd like to try something designed for a blow out. So what is your fave? I'm nervous to just dive right in because before this my hair was limp and fine, so everything just seems way too heavy...

Also, Morrocanoil (the brand) is a no go - it makes me break out wherever my hair touches my face.

Re: Hair Smoothing Serum

  • I got a smoothing treatment at the salon.  I think it's a keratin treatment along the lines of a Brazilian blowout but without the formaldehyde.  It lasts several weeks, cuts down on blow dry time, makes my hair look healthier and more smooth.  The best part, NO FRIZZ!!!
  • That would be awesome. I'm on a tight budget right now, though, so I I'd like to try a product before a salon treatment!

  • I've had good luck with Paul Mitchell's serum. It is a bit pricey but it lasts a long time. I'm still using the bottle I bought in February.  I just bought Suave's smoothing shampoo yesterday. I haven't used it long enough to make a full opinion but I've herd good things about it.

  • I love love love everything by Amika. They have an oil that is amazing. I have really oily hair (but dry ends from a highlighting disaster), and it was my HG hair serum.

  • I love Carol's Daughter Hair Balm. I picked it up at Ulta to deal with split ends from a bad razor haircut experience and liked that it wasn't full of silicone like a lot of smoothers are. It is amazing and it only takes a pea size amount. It has actually improved my hair's condition that I notice how much more manageable it is when I don't use it. It does have a slight honey smell.
