Apparently trying to kill your wife is funny

I should never read newspaper comments. I apparently never learn.

Our elderly neighbor shot his wife. Its been a crazy 24 hours. Its just a few doors down. He shot her multiple times at she fled into the front lawn. Our neighbor (actually our babysitter's mom) was home and saw it all go down on the front lawn and called the cops. The news trucks have been here non stop since it happened. Its been big news. Right now she is in very critical condition and they aren't sure she will make it. Its just a horrible story.

Some of the comments are sickening. People are making jokes like "Well, I bet she took the last beer" or other jokes about why its ok to abuse a spouse. WTF is wrong with people? Even if you think those things in your head, you would think you'd have enough sense not to write it on a story like that.

Re: Apparently trying to kill your wife is funny

  • How tragic. That poor woman.  Did they have other family?

The baseness of people's moral character when they think no one will know who they are is terrifying.  It really is.

  • That's horrible.

As a general rule of thumb, never read the comments.

  • What pp said.  What do you expect when reading the comments?

Also, to no surprise I'm sure, I laughed at the beer comment.

  • Sometimes I make inappropriate jokes about things that aren't funny.

The comments are often hilarious and inappropriate both.

  • Yep, never read the comments, esp. if you have a personal connection to the story.  My husband and I had a friend die from suicide and made the mistake of reading some of the utterly crappy things people said on local newspaper websites.  Upsetting, until I remembered that 90% of comments are moronic. Although strangely I do read them sometimes -- even the comments section on Yahoo news stories, which is where brains go to die.

  • That's terrible.  Comments on news articles are like vile posts on twitter - it gives someone a public platform to be dumb.  You'll be better off if you don't read them.

  • She died :(

And its one thing to laugh internally, and quite another to actually post such a joke on the story itself.

  • I despise reading comments on news stories for just this reason. The level of idiocy of some people is truly astounding.
