How to find mortgage broker?

How did you find your mortgage broker?  We don't know anybody who has bought a house recently so we can't ask friends who they used.

Re: How to find mortgage broker?

  • Our REA actually recommended someone that she's worked with in the past who is very good. We do have friends and family that have bought houses recently in the same general area so we could have asked them if she hadn't supplied the broker's info. But we're glad she did, because the broker has been great so far. We're still in the beginning process (offer accepted, inspection this week), but she's been really helpful through emails and phone calls with any questions we've had and getting basic information in place.

If you really like and trust your REA, I'd ask him or her if they know of anyone they could suggest to you.

  • We actually went by company/bank vs. the specific broker. We requested quotes from our real estate company's in house mortgage brokers, the local bank where we do business and then a local credit union where we have a car loan.

This. We used a company that has a great reputation in our area - they are known for making closings on time and with low stress. They were amazing to work with and the fact that we were working with them made our offers more competitive because listing agents like them.

  • We actually looked at different banks, comparing rates and other things before deciding. We checked out the ones recommended by our friends/family and ended up going with the ones they used too.

  • we asked friends (no help to you) and also talked to one whom our real estate agent recommended.
