DH's New Name For Me

"Clark"

As in "Clark Griswold" from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. (If ya'll remember that movie when Clark lit up the house with a ridiculous amount of lights.)

We were out this past weekend and I wanted light up candy cane stakes and lighted garland but nooooo. Come on. When has 10 to 12 light up candy canes hurt anyone? It's FESTIVE.

Every time I picked something up DH would say, "No, Clark." He wouldn't even look and I'd hear, "No, Clark."

Well DH, I'm a martini deep doing online Christmas shopping, and me thinks I'm about to purchase a three foot tall, light up, skiing penquin.

You'll wish you let me buy those light up candy canes.

Call me, Clark. Clark...Griswold.

Re: DH's New Name For Me

  • I know where you live. And I drive by your house fairly often. The next time I go by, I expect to see a giant skiing penguin. I will be very disappointed if it's not there Big Smile
  • He walked in as I was looking at it, and he expressed how much he hates the penguin.

I don't think that's bad. DH is all "It's gotta be tasteful." Psssshhht! Whatever! I find tacky horribly fun.

Maybe he'll enjoy the plastic flying santa with reindeer? Santa with Frosty  in Santa's workshop?

Pick your Christmas poison DH. I'm getting light up stuff!

How about these? 6 or 7 of them? THey're only 14 inches tall.

  • Oh awesome! You totally need the penguin and the lights.  You can set up a ski slope for him.  It will be awesome. Just do it when your DH isn't home. Then you can act all surprised when he comes home. You can say that a crazy nestie has been stalking you and she must have set it up herself.
  • I'll just say, "That wacky Pookielove! How did she ever get the skiing penquin in our yard?"

Alas, DH really hates the penguin with a serious venom. I'm a little taken back by it. I never knew he harbored such feelings for artic foul yard decor. Who knew?

The red lights he doesn't hate as much. But I can only get 5. Sad Ugh. FINE. I'll just have to go shopping to find more glorious light up paraphernalia. Wheeee!

I did sneak this in to put in the upstairs window. Shhh! Don't tell him.

  • I'm a little offended by his anti-penguin bigotry.  Penguins are my favorite of all the animals that I will never own.  At least he approved of the lights, though. You should tell him that they were buy one get one free and get ten of them Devil
  • I know. Not only was it a penguin, it was penquin skiing. It's what they would normally do out in the wild. Minus the skis, scarf, and hat of course.

When DH hit the "We'll be bringing property values down" part of his anti-light up-penquin rant, that's when I knew it was no deal. (Pssst! We live in Reading. Not like the the butler Jeeves from the estate next door will come over and tell us to remove our unsightly decorations.)

I will have to smuggle an other decorations into the house covertly. And then TA-DA!!! It's on our front yard!

I am so excited to to take down the Christmas stuff from the attic after Thursday! Next to giving and getting presents, that's my favorite part of the holiday season.
