Between DH and I, we have several relatives graduating this spring from various schools (high school and college). They are second cousins that we only see occasionally, maybe once every couple of years. I heard from other relatives that they are sending us graduation announcements, party invites, etc. The families live out of state so we would not be attending.
Are we obligated to send a gift? It's really not in our budget to send gifts to these three kids that we are not close with.
I know it's proper etiquette to send a gift if you are invited to a shower or wedding but what about a graduation?
TIA!

Re: Graduation Etiquette
Did you invite these people to your wedding or shower/showers? Did they give gifts for those?
We got grad announcements for some of DH's 2nd cousins that we never see other than at weddings or funerals. They gave us wedding and baby gifts, so I sent $ to their kids for graduations.
I think if you dont' have a previous gift giving history w/ them, I don't think you are obligated to send gifts. I would send a card though.

No, the kids and their parents were not invited to showers, weddings, etc. for us.
Maybe we will just send cards.

Based on this, I would just send cards.
