What are you doing for Maggie's/Ander's 2nd birthday? I don't want to have a big party again, but I don't know how I am not going to because of our families.
Re: Krissy and Meghan
Maggie's party is this Sunday actually. We are having a BBQ in our yard. We will end up with around 50 people, but mostly that is just family. We have a pool and are borrowing a friend's bouncy house. We are just having burgers and hot dogs.Big BBQs in the summer are the norm, so this really isn't that big of a deal.
Party planning is my love, so I go all out with a theme, but I do it myself and pretty cheaply, so it doesn't cost us much more than a regular BBQ would. I am actually pretty proud of all the stuff this year. I can't wait to show everyone pictures!
:butting in:
We are doing a basketball theme for Eli's party. We were going to just do a family thing with close relatives on his birthday and then have more of a playdate party with my friends that have kids. However, I was starting to go overboard on both (since I love planning) and figured one bigger party would be easier. It still won't be as big as his first birthday but should be fun. We are just doing an outdoor bbq with the pool filled and stuff.
We are in a little bit of a different situation since we just moved again, but we will be doing a little cake and gifts with my parents this weekend since I'm in VT and then S's parents will be down for A's birthday weekend, so we are taking him to the Please Touch Museum.
I love a good party, but since we don't have any family close by, we won't be doing a big one. I'm not a party person for little kids...that's just me.
Personally, in your shoes I would just say "we are having an open house for P's b-day from 12-4. Food will be served around 2:30 and cake around 3 if the b-day boy holds up! We would love to see you!" plan food for everyone you know wil be there (worst case you have some leftovers) and then you have an end time. Get some balloons, cute plates, and enough goody bags for the young invitees. I love open houses-as a guest you can go when you want (which may mean some people swing by for 10 min, others for all 4 hours), and as a hostess you serve food at the set time, no awkward-should we eat now? I like to go, mingle and leave when my kids are tired.
Good luck!
