waiting on closing SUCKS

so everyday the bank wants new documents, and now I'm getting text messages from my realtor trying to push things along.  I am living in boxes, and I feel like I'm getting attacked but I can't make the closing happen!  Hell, if I could, it would have happened a week ago, ya know?!

So we continue to wait in trepidation....half in boxes, totally messy, can't book the mover yet, and everyone is mad at me?  Huh??

Re: waiting on closing SUCKS

  • Your REA needs a reality check. At a minimum, unless you are in a cash sale (which you aren't) closings can take 30-45 days. DH and I are doing a conventional loan with 20% down and we have high FICOs and it is still taking 30-45 days. That's the norm now. I'd tell her that when you have new news you will let her know.

Regarding the bank, again, that is annoying. It's their system. The computer probably only lets the underwriter proceed in the lending process until each requirement is met and proved properly. S/he does not know what else they will need until prior steps are completed.

Boxes stink. I feel bad for you.

  • I whole-heartedly agree.  Hang in there.

  • Yes it sucks!  My closing got moved back twice!  Hang in there, it is worth it!
  • That sucks thoroughly. We are waiting for closing as well, although more towards the very beginning of the process. We signed contracts and submitted all the documentation we needed to the mortgage broker, but it's always possible the lender will require more. At the moment we're waiting on the title search and appraisal and assuming that all goes smoothly, we'll be on the road to closing.

We haven't started packing yet since we still have at least another 45 days  before closing, but it's frustrating because we currently rent and so we'll be breaking a lease. One of the things the rental company asks for is 60 days notice and to move at the very end or beginning of the month. But how can we really give them notice when we only have an estimate of when closing will be? I could tell them now, but I wouldn't want to say we're moving one weekend  only to have it end up being a week earlier or later (or more), depending on how things go.

Not only that, but I'm excited about moving and just want it to happen NOW. Knowing that I'll be waiting another couple of months is difficult too. I find it strange that your realtor is pressuring you that way, when he/she should know there's not all that much you can do about it.

    Hang in there.

  • All of this.....the whole hurry up and wait thing is killing me
    Anniversary
  • Hang in there. You are not alone! We are all vitually together in the same awful spot, which somehow makes it feel a tiny bit better!

Our closing date was April 15! It's now May 22 and after two contract extensions we are STILL waiting on a new closing date to close on our coop. We haven't even found a house yet, let alone started the next leg of this horrible journey!  I'm all over the darn place too!  OY!

  • So sorry. We aren't even close yet, we have our inspections Friday and then start the waiting game if everything checks out. We are slated to close July 16th and that feels like forever from now.

  • Not to say i'm happy you are all going through this, too, but it is nice to know i'm not alone.  Went through today without a closing date, too :(  We are hoping for Thursday, but I just don't know if it's going to happen before Memorial Day weekend...which sucks because we so could have used to time to move....but I'm seeing how like every other part of this process I just gotta let it go and it will happen...

WOW. Why has the closing date slid so much? Is it the loan approval process?

  • yup.  Underwriting calls us asking for something new everyday.  Just this morning they needed 2 more things.  And they had the wrong tax information.  And Fannie Mae says we need to have 12 months of "reserves" in the bank (I would love to know how many people have 12 months of mortgage payments in their account after closing).  Today, I actually started to cry on the phone with my attorney because I'm really at my wits end.
