Looking for a nestie recipe

Last year there was a ramen noodle slaw recipe going around. Margie used it at her nestie bbq one year and I believe MrsE posted about it too. It was DELISH and I want to use it this weekend for a Memorial Day BBQ im having.

Anyone have it??

Re: Looking for a nestie recipe

  • I don't know if this is it, but I make one once or twice a summer, and I use this recipe that my friend gave me years ago - i think from cooking light. i use bags of coleslaw mix instead of chopping my own cabbage:

my cabbage salad is basically made without a measured recipe. here is the play by play:

    ingredients:
1 medium head cabbage, shredded--this is always a bit tricky because the cabbage heads i always pick seem to end up bigger than i plan. but, it always also seems to get eaten:)
    3/4 cup rice wine vinegar
    3-4 TBL. sugar
2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
    2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp pepper
1 14.5 oz. can (or two small) mandarin orange slices
    1 cup slivered almonds
1 package ramen noodles (the flavor does not matter because you do not use the seasoning.)

    steps:
    1. chop cabbage, discard tough white center portion.
    2. whisk vinegar, oil, sugar, salt, and pepper in small bowl.
    3. pour dressing over cabbage and mix thoroughly.
    4. break apart ramen noodles while still sealed in bag. pour noodles into salad, removing spice sack.
    5. mix noodles, almonds, and cabbage.
    6. drain mandarin oranges. add oranges to salad mixture.
    7. taste. sometimes it seems a little bitter so i just add some sugar.

the chopping takes the longest time. overall i would say it is made in less than 1/2 an hour. i figure it is four points per cup at the most because of the noodles, sugar, and little bit of oil. it does make quite a bit depending on the cabbage head size. i would say it serves 8.

  • This is the recipe I use. I like the oriental flavor ramen soup mix and I throw in a can of mandarin oranges, drained before serving.

RAMEN NOODLE SLAW:1 (3oz) ramen noodle mix (any brand)1/4 cup sliced almonds1/3 cup canola or veg oil1/4 cup of vinegar2 1/2 tablespoons of sugar1 bag of cole slaw mix (cabbage and carrot)3 green onions, sliced (I skipped this part)remove the flavor packet and reserve. Break ramen noodles into pieces, place on lightly greased cookie sheet then add almonds, bake at 350 stirring a time or so until toasted 5 to 10 minutes.whisk flavor packet, oil, vinegar, and sugar until blended, chill hour or longerToss together cabbage, onions and dressing in large bowl.

Lightly stir in noodles and almonds right before serving.
