has anyone had a shorter hair cat lion cut for the summer?

our cat is a sheddy as all hell, she isn't long haired but has very thick fur fluffy fur.

Re: has anyone had a shorter hair cat lion cut for the summer?

  • I've always wanted to give Simon the lion cut. Someday, my dream will come true.

To answer your question, no. When I was growing up, we had a long-haired cat that we had shaved when he got old and was no longer grooming himself but we never shaved any of our cats for shedding. If you think your cat will tolerate the grooming, I'd say go for it. But if you're going to majorly stress the cat or have to sedate it to get the cut, I would say it isn't worth it. I, personally, wouldn't risk putting my cat under just to get it shaved. Also, if your cat is vindictive, like my Simon tends to be, you might end up trading cleaning up hair for a cat that pees where it isn't supposed to or scratched furniture. You just never know how a cat will react or what they'll do when they're pissed.

  • I had to read this title several times because I thought you were talking about a human haircut...

  • Yes, we get our Maine *** cat a lion cut every summer and he loves it!  He is like a new cat when he comes home.  We pay around $80 for it, so we only do it once a year.  But he is long haired and gets some dreadlocks, that is why we do it.  He will not let us brush his underside to get them out.  Not sure how it will work with a short haired cat.

  • She isn't super short haired it's weird.  But she can't clean her butt what's up chub. So that's part of it. Although she is on a diet too.
  • We have a persian and do this 3x a year, more because she gets mats otherwise. She looks REDIC. but it's more comfortable for her, so we do it.
