home visit?

I am looking to get a 3 yr old dog that needs to be rehomed.  He will be my second pup.  I am wondering what to expect during the home visit.  Any questions I should be prepared for etc?  Our yard is fenced, we work, but have doggy play group every day for an hour around noon time everyday with 2-3 other dogs.  What else would they be looking for?  TIA!

Re: home visit?

  • When I do a home visit I check for specifics like where the home sits (on a quiet street, cul de sac, next to a busy road, etc).  Then I assess how tidy things are (yard upkeep, general home upkeep).  I talk to the people about their animals if they have any.  I watch them interact with their pets/children.  We sit down and chat.  We look out in the backyard and walk the fenceline (for escapees).  Most of the time, I do a home visit strictly to verify fencing and make sure they aren't crazy internet folks :)  But meeting the family one on one helps me suggest dogs that might do best in that situation and work best for the family's lifestyle.

  • Thanks so much for the reply.  Everything went great, and she thought we would be perfect.  She brought her dog over to see how my pup played, and asked all of the normal questions I anticipated.  Now we wait :)
