Any HR people care to offer insight?

My DH interviewed at a large international company 1.5 weeks ago. The interview went very well and they called him an hour afterwards to tell him they'd be sending him a consent for a background check, a formal application, a personality test, a 2 hr timed aptitude test, and another questionaire and that they'd be in touch for a 2nd interview. So, he filled out all that stuff and took the test and submitted it all last Monday. The HR lady told him they'd get back to him when they were "ready to start the process" of the 2nd interview. He emailed again yesterday just to follow up and they said they were still interviewing a couple more candidates and they'd "come back to him before the end of the week."

 

WTF?! Why would they make him fill out all that stuff if they weren't interested or still out there interviewing?!

  • A million things could be going on. Someone who had input in when/how to start next steps isn't/wasn't available. A new candidate came in through the door and they're trying to schedule something. A candidate who knows, or is related to, someone in the company is going through the process. The person who contacted your DH didn't convey the message clearly as to where they were sometime during the process. They're trying to get the test results back for more than just your DH, and comparing them to see who woud be a good fit.

    I don't see it as them not being interested. These things can take time.

  • I don't really see anything out of place here. It sounds like they are doing round-one and qualifying people for round two as they go. He made it into round two and they are still finishing up round 1. Once round 1 wraps up they will probably schedule for round 2. 
  • Yeah - I'm not seeing the issue either.  CLearly they are interested.  But the packet they sent him had a LOT of stuff in it- clearly they want to get as far in that process so that when they're ready to start round 2, they have a # of people ready to go.  If they waited until ALL interviews were done, then there would probably be a 2 or 3 week wait while they got the packets out to all the 2nd round candidates and having to wait for them to come back in.

  • Here's a secret about corporate recruiting/hiring--they don't really have a plan. Well, they have a plan, but it is always changed along the way--simply too many people and moving parts involved in the process. 

    Don't think too much about it--you'll just drive yourself crazy.  

  • I have to agree, I don't see anything out of place here. Corporate recruiting can be very messy and it always depends on how many people applied, how many people they think would be a good fit, and whatever little processes and steps end up changing along the way.

    It can take a long time and be very confusing to someone on the outside, but I wouldn't worry. Good luck to him! (:
