Thank you for the Dublin tour suggestion!  I have booked a full day outing with Kieran for next week!

He has a handful of suggestions for us.  Coast, country, etc.  We aren't doing the Cliffs of Moher with him because it's just such a hike, and we're only in Ireland for a few days.

When you had lunch, etc., did he drop you off in a downtown area and let you go on your own for a bit?  We have never done private tours like this, but have had drivers.  Any insight on how they "guide" you, would be great.

I'm assuming we can just point and say "hey, can we hop out here and take pics?" etc.  Right?

Thanks again!

  • You might be able to page her on the proboards: http://pandce.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=int
  • He will definitely let you stop and take a picture where ever you want.  He is awesome and really picks up on what you are interested in and what you aren't and talks that up.  He picked us up at our hotel in Dublin then we drove out to Wicklow.  On the way there he drove us by a bunch of big huge houses because I had mentioned I was helping my boss house hunt in Dublin that weekend and his budget made for some pretty amazing houses.  I think we saw Sinead whatsherfaces house, Bono's manager, and some other people I don't remember.  We did the Wicklow Tour:

-Power's Court (really pretty totally loved stopping there)

-Avoca.  We had lunch here with Kieran at a pretty little cafe...we also checked out the avoca textile shops....not the highlight of our trip but the little cafe was cute.  Kieran buys his own lunch.  We weren't sure about that part.

-Glendalough - awesome.  Loved it.  Is was gorgeous and beautiful and amazing. Have you seen Leap year?  This is the lake they filmed the wedding scene at.  There are some ruins he walks you through that are near for the history side of things.

-Sally Gap - most amazing views ever.  Totally awesome.

He is more of a tour guide than a driver.  He will take you through the places and give you the full history.  If you could care less, tell him he doesn't care.  We didn't have a great deal of interest in the history of the gardens of powers court we just wanted to see them and he was fine with it.  He does know a crap load though.  I think he has a master's degree in Irish history.  I'm sure if you wanted to be left to your own devices he would let you do that also.

I lost most of the pictures from that part of the trip but it was so beautiful.   I also feel like I am forgetting part of where we went.  It took us about 8 hours but we were dragging along a 3 year old so we had to go at his pace.

We did tip Kieran at the end.  I cannot remember for the life of me how much we gave him for a tip (maybe 40E) but we felt like he was worth every penny.  I don't think he expected the tip but we was grateful.

Glad you decided to book him.  We have GREAT memories of that trip.  We would also pass huge tour groups and were so happy to be out on our own!
