IUD...

Hormones...no hormones. What do you guys think? I have never had one but was on low dose hormones when I was on the pill.

Re: IUD...

  • I have a mirena (low dose progestin only) and I have mixed feelings about it.  I have almost no period (literally, I have a package of tampons that I bought in 2006).  I do have some other issues which may or may not be related that aren't cool, but I do love love love that I can't mess this up.  Mine expires in November, so I've had it for nearly five years now.  I am going to switch to the pill when I have it removed because we expect to TTC in a year or so, but I would definitely consider getting a Mirena again.

There is no way that I would consider a Paraguard, but I have 10 day long horrific periods with no birth control, so I can't handle something that may make them longer/more painful.

  • The thought of having something inside me 24/7 weirds me out, so I've never tried an IUD (and probably never will).  I also don't like the idea of not having a period.  While it would be nice in theory, I think not having that "reassurance" would freak me out and make me paranoid.  I've never had a problem with the pill so I just stick with it.

  • Loved the mirena. No weight gain, barely there periods. I'll get one again!

  • I had Mirena for about a year. It was great up until then. I don't know if it was making me sick or something else. I ended up getting it taken out because I was getting really sick quite frequently. I did love not having a period and it was awesome not to have to remember taking a pill everyday. DH would complain that he would get poked by the threads every once in a while(TMI I know), but you can always go back in and have them shortened.
