nervous about moving - were you?

we're closing FINALLY on our house this week.  I am happy and excited, and we have been waiting so long for everything to get settled, but I'm starting to get really nervous!  we have lived in our current home for 4 years, and I love it here (its an apt, we are moving into a house, so that is WHY we are moving even though we love it, we want an outdoor area, etc.)  I guess I'm just nervous about sleeping in a different place, being in an actual house now as opposed to a small apartment -- any experience with this?

Re: nervous about moving - were you?

  • I just went through it myself!  1600 sq ft sure beats the 700 in my apartment.  I hate moving and unpacking and settling but it has been worth it.  I have loved my new house way more than the apartment.  Well with the exception of mowing the lawn!
  • I was very nervous since before this house, I had lived in the same city my whole life and for the last 2 years have lived right across the street from my parents. It was a shock to our system to not have anyone so close by.

I have to say that everything worked out and I'm loving our home. I was really sick of hearing people above us in out last apartment

  • I am feeling the same way.  We are in a 1 bedroom apartment now and about to move into a three bedroom house!! Even though our neighbors are soo annoying and I will not miss the noises and various smells that eminate from other's apartments, there is something comforting about being surrounded by people upstairs, downstairs and on both sides!!  lol

We've lived in our place for the past four years as well. I'm a touch nervous, and recently started to think about an alarm system for the new house lol but I think the excitment of moving on to the the next phase of our life (finally!) is trumping the nerves! The idea that I don't have to inhale the woman downstair's cigarette's or listen to the sex addicts above us at all hrs of the day and night is the most peaceful thought ever!! LOL

We had to extend our contract twice and went past our closing date, so we're still waiting to hear on a new one. Hopefully we'll close in 2 weeks. Fingers are crossed!

     Congrats on closing!!

  • We have been in our new home for 5 days and I love it! I was also nervous that I wouldn't be able to sleep in a new place but it wasn't difficult at all. I was so exhausted from moving, unpacking, and cleaning that I was out as soon as my head hit the pillow.  When you wake up your first morning and realize you're in your new home, it's the best feeling in the world!
  • The nerves aren't there for me, but the excitement and anticipation is overwhelming!! I love that in 3 weeks we are moving into our house and entering the next stage of life with my soul mate. It is a bit overwhelming packing everything up from my condo I have lived in for 18 years! I've grown up here and all my childhood memories and things are here. But it all has to go since we will be leasing it out. Good luck to you!
