Re: weekly book post

  • I just finished rereading The Outsiders.  I am teaching this in my class and wanted to remind myself of the details.  This is such a great book and most of my students are really enjoying it.

I am reading Dragonfly in Amber.  It is the 2nd book in the Outlander series.  It is LONG and taking me forever because I haven't had much time to read.  But I really like it and don't want to stop reading it even though it is taking me over a month to finish.

I just started listening to Flyboys in the car.  It is a true story of naval pilots in WWII.  I am only one disc in but I am enjoying it so far.  The author is reading it and it feels like I am listening to a grandfather tell war stories.

  • I just finished Adriana Trigiani's latest book, The Shoemaker's Daughter. It was very good and much different than her other books. Here's part of the synopsis given on Goodreads:Lush and evocative, told in tantalizing detail and enriched with lovable, unforgettable characters, The Shoemaker's Wife is a portrait of the times, the places and the people who defined the immigrant experience, claiming their portion of the American dream with ambition and resolve, cutting it to fit their needs like the finest Italian silk.

  • I read TWO books (shocker, I know....but it was vacation, right?):

    1. Kingdom Keepers: Shell Game (teenage series about bad guys trying to take over Disney World....my little brother reads them and it gives us something to talk about since most the stuff he usually read is war/military books). It was good, killer cliffhanger though. The only way it would have been worse is if that author had stopped mid sentence!

    2. Fifty Shades of Grey. Had to see what the fuss was about. It was good, some glaring grammatical/proper form/tense of a word errors in the e-book that literally distracted me from what I was trying to read that I had to go back and re-read several paragraphs throughout the novel.  I can see why so many women like it, I was more into how Ana's psyche and through process developed throughout honestly. It was hot at some points and scary at others (as in I can't believe she's letting him do this to her) but it also left on such a cliffhanger I'm considering reading the next book. I don't know how much I liked it yet...still need time to process that.

Since I've got back, I've been reading nothing but research and scholarly articles for my thesis and am hoping to read the new Terry Goodkind novel that comes out in July after my proposal is turned in on July 13th....

  • I just finished Two Kisses for Maddy.  It was awesome...so sad, but I loved it!  It's about a single father raising his daughter after his wife passed away shortly after giving birth.  It was very heartfelt!

I'm also in the middle of Lamb...the story of Jesus as told by his childhood best friend supposedly.  It's pretty funny, though not in the way I expected.

That is my favorite book!  I love the origin of the Easter Bunny- even my aunt who is a nun/canon lawyer thought it was hysterical!

We are on vacation now and I tried to read the Lost Symbol- and kept thinking it sounded familiar... and that's b/c I had already read it.   I moved on to a Maeve Binchy book-  Heart & Soul.    It should be an easy read.

    I love The Outsiders.

This week I read Insurgent.  About to start either 11/22/63 or Ready Player One.  Summer starts after school on Friday, so I'll have a ton of time to read soon!

  • I finished Gypped.  It was really really good!!!  Now I just finished Can You Keep a Secret?  which I think was recommended on this board.  It was great.  I had never read a Sophie Kinsella book...I have read a few by her alter ego Madeleine Wickham.  I couldn't put Can You Keep a Secret down!!! Not sure what is next.  I have to look at my bookshelf...possibly Laced.  Another mystery in the Regan Reilly series by Carol Higgins Clark.
  • I also read Insurgent this week. I liked it, and it was a super quick read. I'm in the market for some good summer reading once I actually have some time to read!
