Hair suggestions needed

I am thinking about changing up my hair. I've had the same style pretty much for like 15 years. I had loooong hair through HS (most the way down my back) and almost always wore it in a ponytail or bun. About halfway through college (like 2006-ish?) I chopped length off, to just below my shoulders. It is slightly longer now, but still medium length. I basically always have it back or up. I never wear it down.

I want to cut it short - like between my chin and shoulders. I haven't ever had it that short. I've never not had it long enough to pull back. Here are my reservations.

1. It's probably damaged from always being back/up and won't look goo. (Although it may be good for it in the long run.)

2. I don't know if it will look good on me.

3. I have a center part and no bangs. I don't know if this will even allow me to have bangs. I don't want normal across my forehead bangs. Side bangs I think I would be ok with - but I haven't had bangs of any kinds since I was like 7.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Here's what I look like now - best shot I could find of my face shape: (I'm the brunette)

Re: Hair suggestions needed

  • I actually had the first cut, I took the same picture to my stylist, and after about 2-3 weeks I hated the bangs.  Because they are longer bangs they were in my eyes after I got a little bit of grow out.  I still have the rest of cut, I just grew out the bangs as soon as I could.  It's pretty easy to maintain, I can pull it up in a pony tail if I need to but, I need one of those hair tie headbands to take care of the short bits in the back.

  • I think the first one would look cute, but I do agree that if you havent had bangs for most of your life, it might feel a bit awkard, and when they do start growing in, they will be to short to pull behind your ears, but too long and in your eyes.  But I do think the first one would also look cute with no bangs.  I'd say go for it, if you dont like it, it will grow back!

  • I really don't think that's a short hair cut and I think this cut would look great on you. The side bangs are a good idea. I am sure your hair will look really healthy because that is a very clean cut. If you are concerned about damage, talk to your stylist. She can always do a semi-permanent color glaze on your hair that will moisturize and seal your cuticle which will give your hair a nice smooth look and shine. I did glazes for a while while trying to grow out damage I caused from always (literally) tying my hair back in a knot...(.I had this fuzzy line across the back of my head.) They really helped. There's also lots of anti-frizz products out there, too.

Go for it and post a pic!
