how many recovery days after Europe trip?
We are flying out of the east coast on a Thurs night flight (10:45 pm), after putting in a full work day. We get back home 9 days later late on a Saturday night. Sunday will be a recovery day and then back to work on Monday.
While DH is limited by work and can't get extra days off, I do have extra vacation days to play with. Would you add an extra recovery day after the trip? Or would you consider taking the Thurs off on our departure day? Or neither?
thanks!
Re: how many recovery days after Europe trip?
If you can take an extra day off when you return, I'd recommend that. It really did not take that long to bounce back but I had two full days. We arrived home Friday night- I did not sleep on the plane so that I could get home, go to bed at a normal time and try to get myself back on EST as quickly as possible. Then I had all of Saturday and Sunday to recover. I was feeling fine for work by Monday morning. My sleep was almost back to normal by that time- I was still waking up a little early (around 4:am) but was able to get to sleep around my usual time and get a full nights rest. Have fun!

I normally plan 1-2 days and prob would not take off Monday if it was harder to do. It's important to try to plan your schedule on Saturday to help ease into the time change (meals, wind down, sleep on the plane).

I agree with this. Preparing and packing for our trips always end up taking so much longer than I anticipate. I often go to work the very next day after a European trip and although it sucks, I always manage. The most I have ever taken off after a trip was one day which was enough time for me.
I would not spend a vacation day relaxing when I could spend it in the future on another trip.
You don't say how much the time difference is, but even so, I think coming from east to west is a lot easier. I usually wake up earlier than usual on Day 1, have to struggle through the exhaustion until I can go to bed that night and then am so tired I sleep til almost normal time on Day 2. The adjustment isn't enough for me to want to burn a vacation day, and I'd rather pack in advance. But it's a question of personal preference, there's no right or wrong.

I agree with this. We got back from our week and a half trip on a Sunday at noon, and I was back at work the next day. Adjusting to the time change coming back is MUCH easier than going, I just forced myself to stay up Sunday night until about 9 (when I normally go to bed) and got up Monday a.m., and was fine. It honestly wasn't that bad either. We left on a Wednesday evening, and I did however spend the entire day Wednesday running around packing and taking care of last minute things.
Ditto. If I get back Sunday by 2pm, I go to work Monday. So if you get back Saturday night, *I* would think there's no need for an extra day (though I'd probably leave work Thursday by like 2pm for any last minute stuff). But everyone is different.
